I live in the condo where Steve was the maintenance supervisor. He helped me catch my dog on many occasions. I will always remember him in the tractor removing snow with no jacket on! It must have been warm in the tractor cab. He was always very friendly and such a hard worker. We have all lost a wonderful person. My sympathies to you all! - Posted by: Donna Pope (Friend) on: Feb 21, 2015

Steve was a very special person. From his warm smile to his kind and sharing heart. He was always there for family and friends. He was loved truly and will leave a huge hole in the hearts on many. No one knows why special people like Steve are taken from us so early, all we can do is trust that he is in the hands of God and in a much better place. Wrap him in your love Lord, we will all get to see him again when we join him in forever. - Posted by: Rosilie Johnson (friend, ) on: Feb 21, 2015

There are no words to express how sorry we are to hear the very sad news about Steve!! You both have become part of our family for some time now & looked forward to special gatherings. The great impact Steve has made on our kids I can never be more grateful! When we made the decision to move to another province I knew our grown kids would have great role models in the 2 of you! We will forever have treasured memories & a precious angel forever watching over us! We loved you so very much Steve & the lord gained another gifted angel! Please watch over our kids for Daryle & I. Jeff try to stay strong in the comfort knowing you were married to the man of your dreams but to such a gentle soul! On behalf of the SMART Fire Academy family, we are extremely saddened by Steve's passing and we offer our condolences to Jeff and the rest of Steve's family. Steve was a great student and friend and the one we could always count on to be the first to volunteer at any event, or just to offer a hand if needed. Steve was taken too soon and never got to live his dream of being a firefighter. Knowing his dedication, desire, pride and professionalism, I would have been proud to serve with him. - Posted by: Bob Poole (SMART Fire Instructor and Friend) on: Feb 21, 2015

We were very fortunate to have been part of Steve's life from the day he was born. Even at an early age he was always looking after everyone. When we visited him with our 9 month old daughter he took such good care of her making sure that "baby casey" was ok. He was only 2 years older, but he never left her side the entire time. During the years we had many the late night chat, talking about life and his dreams and goals for the future. You are missed, but you will always be in our hearts. - Posted by: Bea and Sandy Hannivan (friend of family) on: Feb 20, 2015

I am absolutely devastated and saddened by the passing of Steve. I live in the condo where Steve lived and became the "Super" site super-intendent. From the very moment Jeff and Steve were voted to the board of the condo the whole atmosphere changed. They brought energy hope and prosperity to our little community and nobody could deny the fact the our grounds have never looked better. He was out with snow plow long before many of us even knew it snowed. I understand why Jeff loved him so, he was kind, considerate of all and his work ethic was very much admired and appreciated. My heart goes out to Jeff and Steve's family. - Posted by: Tracy Heppner () on: Feb 19, 2015

We did not see one another often due to distance but whenever we did Steve, even at a young age, he was able to be part of the conversation and make you the adult feel at ease. He was always willing to share his experiences and knowledge on a variety of subjects and it was a pleasure to be in his company. My heart breaks for all of you! I know each of you will miss him and his kind heart and soul! We too will miss him. - Posted by: Bernice & Keith Tracey (Friend of the Family) on: Feb 19, 2015
