AL SCHUMAN
Born: Aug 16, 1926
Date of Passing: Feb 16, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAL (CLIFFORD) SCHUMAN August 16, 1926 February 16, 2015 After a short but courageous battle with colon cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Al at the Grace Hospital. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 61 years Lorraine, his daughter Teresa (Gord), his son Robin (Mourine) and his two grandsons Evan and Aaron, his sister Rita and his brother Wayne (Nancy), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Al was born on August 16, 1926 to August and Anna of Fannystelle, Manitoba where he lived until he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in October of 1948. It was through these postings that he met his bride in Chilliwack, BC and they were married months later on December 26, 1953 in Vancouver. Dad retired as a sergeant in the Air Force after 24 years with theatres of service in England and Italy with his final posting in Winnipeg where he retired in 1972. Dads love of travel took him to drive for Grey Goose Bus Lines for 13 years, where he and mom ran tours from Alaska to Florida and Victoria to Newfoundland. Before retiring in 1992, Dad drove for Paul's Hauling where he received consecutive driver of the year awards. Dad was simple man, not wanting much from life but to provide for his family, have a "freshie" with good neighbours and catch a fish or two. He had a quiet, strong presence that made people gravitate to him and he could tell a story like no other. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of the 3rd floor at Grace Hospital as well as the ladies of Access Winnipeg for their guidance and help at such a difficult time. Keeping with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Dad's Life starting at 2:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, for those who desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society and CancerCare Manitoba in Dad's memory. They are gone from our sight, but never from our memory, Gone from our hearing, but never from our hearts, Gone from our touch but their presence is felt And the love that they gave us never departs.
