JOHN ALAN EINARSON John Alan "Jack" Einarson of Winnipeg passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on February 17, 2015 at the age of 88. He is survived by son Ronald (Yvonne), and children Neal (Lori) and Louise (Jesse) Serra; son John (Harriett), and children Matthew (Kelly) and Lynsey (Kory) Zelickson; great- grandchildren Shelby and Shiloh Einarson, Layah and Ari Zelickson, Zoe Serra, and Amber Einarson. Jack was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Helen, in 2010; parents Olivia (Olive) and Kristian Einarson, sister Beverly Zakala, and brother William. Jack was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 18, 1926 and raised in Gimli until moving to Winnipeg where he received his elementary and junior high school education. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces near the end of the Second World War and worked as an engineer for the Canadian Pacific Railway for 43 years, retiring in 1986. Jack and Helen raised their family in Crescentwood. After retiring he enjoyed golfing at Charleswood Golf Course, curling at Charleswood Curling Club, and playing seniors baseball. Jack's flower garden was a great source of pride with his roses and tomatoes legendary. But his greatest love was for his family, doting on his four grandchildren who called him Papa. Jack had a heart of gold and the ability to make friends everywhere. Quick with a joke, he will be dearly missed by staff and residents of West Park Manor. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Winnipeg Humane Society. Jack loved dogs. Private family service has already taken place. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

  • My deepest condolences to Ron, Yvonne and the rest of the Einarson family on the passing of John. I would like to share a quote with his family. "John has not died but merely gone away to a better place, free of pain and suffering. You will be re-united with him again some day."
