Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN DONALD MASNIUK (PAPA JOHN) June 15, 1928 - February 24, 2015 At the age of 86, with his wife Estelle by his side, Papa John passed away peacefully at home. John leaves to mourn his wife of 67 years, Estelle (née Clément), his children, Trish, Dianne (Paul) Sambrooke, Gary (Bonnie), Bryan, Michelle (Don) Funk, and Cindy (Harmen) Westra, as well as 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Two other family members held a special place in John's heart -- Wally (Anne) Masniuk and Dave (Irene) Masniuk. John also made many life-long friends, too numerous to mention. John was a shrewd businessman and he was very proud of what he accomplished. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent numerous hours hunting, fishing and flying. John helped establish Lyncrest Airport in Transcona. He was a lifetime member of the Winnipeg Trap and Skeet Club. John was the first and only Canadian to win the Spring Grand American in trapshooting in Phoenix, Arizona. When he wasn't shooting, he was always up for a game of cards, especially when money was involved. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, February 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street. A special thank you to Dr. Chris Fotti for the excellent care he received. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3A 1P6 or Ducks Unlimited, P.O. Box 1160, Stonewall, Manitoba R0C 2Z0. We are writing from Palm Springs, California. We are sorry to hear of Uncle John's passing and offer our sincere condolences to Tante Estelle and all the members of the family. Uncle John had a special presence for the Léo and Alice Clément family, providing friendship, business and equipment support to Mom and Dad. He was a great hunter and fisherman with a knack for story telling especially back in the days of St. Lazare, spending many years with Mom and Dad in Mesa, Arizona and for us, regular chitchats on the dock at Chelsea's during our years at Petersfield. He will be missed. We regret that we were not able to join you for the celebration of Uncle John's life. Our sincere condolences Gary and family, on the loss of your father. A memorable experience of his adventurous nature was when he took me for the ride of my life in his Citabria airplane. I have never forgotten it either. You were our fuel guy that day and must of been laughing on the ground when he climbed straight up one thousand feet and then did a backward loop . The rest of the trip to Black Island then Broad Valley , towards Ashern then Eriksdale then a buzz of John Timchishen's farm were a piece of cake. He will be missed by many of his old friends. - Posted by: Jerry Yarema (business acquaintance ) on: Feb 27, 2015
