EDWARD DAVID JOHN VEITCH
Date of Passing: Feb 25, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD (TED) DAVID JOHN VEITCH Peacefully, on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at the Health Sciences Centre, Ted Veitch, passed away at the age of 84. Ted appreciated his early years in Petersfield, Manitoba where he found a love of community and sport. He was a versatile athlete, winningly pitching for the home team, and later golfing with family and excelling at competitive curling. After high school Ted joined his father in establishing Veitch Truck Lines. In 1972 his son, Ken, joined the firm. Ted was especially proud of Ken's business acumen. While Ken took the lead in the eighties, Ted maintained a presence at VTL until last year. Ted cherished 29 years with his partner Barb. He was also the proud grandfather of Carolyn and Tim. They brought him great joy and, in his last years, comfort. Ted's caring nature was felt by many in the community over the years. He will be deeply missed. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Evelyn; brother Ron and sister-in-law Priscilla and granddaughter Carolyn. Ted is survived by his son Ken (Dianne); daughter Evelyn; grandson Tim (partner Morgan); niece Jennifer (John); great-nephew Harry; extended family and loving partner Barbara Knect. Respecting Ted's wishes we will say farewell without a formal service. The family extends gratitude to the staff at the Selkirk and District General Hospital, the Health Sciences Centre and, especially, Dr. Rick Lindenschmidt. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

So sorry to hear. Growing up in Selkirk I knew the Veitch family. In the late '60s I worked for Ted. To this day there is not a year that passes that I don't have a memory of Ted. He left a big impression on me and was an inspiration to life and work. I'll miss him, regards to all. Gerry - Posted by: gerry stefanson (ex-neighbour, employie & friend) on: Mar 16, 2015

Ted was an old family friend. He was very close to Oakley and I. We played lots of cards and spent many New Year's Eves enjoying his wit. He was a friend who was always there whenever you needed him. His presence in Selkirk will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Dawn Southern (friend) on: Mar 07, 2015

Ted was a long time family friend of my parents and I worked at VTL for 4 summers in the late 70's when it was still on Greenwood avenue. In my mind Ted was one of the kindest people I have ever met and a true gentleman. Although I moved away from Selkirk many years ago I often think about my time working with Ted, Ken and the rest of the gang and it always brings a smile to my face. In those days he always had a bit of a bark, followed with some life advice and then he would help you out. For example, on a couple of occasions we needed some help on the farm getting the hay in and next thing we knew an R model Mac was pulling into the field with a flat bed and a handful of guys. He was a pillar of the community and a great guy! My thoughts are with Ken and Evelyn and the Veitch family - Posted by: Mark Southern (Friend) on: Mar 05, 2015

Ted meant the world to me....as you know. I'm going to miss him more than words can say. We had a lot of laughs, a lot of cries and most importantly a lot of great memories. My sincere sympathy goes out to all the Veitch family and to Barb as well. - Posted by: Rhonda Palmer (special friend ) on: Mar 04, 2015
