JOSEPH IRONEAGLE April 5, 1955 - February 28, 2015 After a hard fought and stubborn battle against pancreatic cancer, Joseph left us February 28, 2015 at 7:43 p.m. at the Riverview Health Centre. True to form, Joe left on his own terms. He knew his departure would be too heart wrenching for his siblings, so he waited until his family left his side. Held by his soul mate Sarah Stevenson and his sister-in-law Jo, he left peacefully, quietly, and quickly to rejoin the link with his cherished mom and dad. Gerald Stanford Anderson was born on April 5, 1955 to Dave and Caroline Anderson of Fairford, Manitoba. As a child, he was always full of mischief and as a teenager was always looking for adventure. He drifted into Winnipeg and started working in construction when he was 17. He followed in the footsteps of his older brothers and started as an apprentice and became a proud member of The Ironworkers Local 728 in 1988. It was this daring spirit that made him an incredible ironworker connector. He worked throughout Western Canada and the United States of America and was well respected everywhere because of his skills and hard work ethics, instilled by his parents. He was looking forward to working with his apprenticing ironworker daughter, Angel, at the Keeyask Hydropower Project in Northern Manitoba. Six of his brothers are ironworkers and worked with him at various projects, they are known as the Anderson clan. We have heard from so many ironworkers who speak highly of him. Gerry leaves behind his greatest and biggest joy, his daughters Angel Anderson and Christy Anderson (grandsons Riley and Austin) and his adopted daughter Pam Vernaus. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his siblings: Allan (Lorraine), Tom (Josephine), Emily (Dan) Kent, Clarence (Kathy), Mark (Sheila), Shirley, David Jr. (Kim), Henry (Deedra), Colleen (Lester) Woodhouse, Vince (Fern). He was predeceased by his mother, Caroline Mae Anderson, on May 14, 1995 and his father, David Anderson, on January 28, 1997. Wake services will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Green Acres Funeral Home; Highway #1 East at Navin Road. Wake services will also be held at the Fairford House of Prayer in Fairford, Manitoba on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Fairford House of Prayer on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the St. Helen's Anglican Cemetery close to his treasured parents. Active pallbearers will be all his brothers, just as they did for their parents. Cross bearer will be his daughter Angel. Honorary pallbearers will be all Ironworkers of Local 728 and all Operating Engineers he worked with. The family would like to thank the 3 East Palliative Care Unit Staff at Riverview for their compassionate care of Joseph, especially Dr. Ted St. Goddard, nurses Lyle and Manivan who adored him. The outpouring of generous support from cousins, aunts, friends, ironworkers, Daphne Gould, co-workers of Henry, help from councilor Ted Woodhouse on behalf of Chief and Council of Pinaymootang. Your calls, visits, food, memories and especially your prayers have been so greatly appreciated. Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I only met him two or three times, but I still cried at his funeral. Then again it was because my mom hit me with her computer. I felt really bad for my mom, she was crying the whole time. - Posted by: Riley (grandson) on: Sep 11, 2020

  • Farewell, Joseph. I was so sad and deeply affected when Mark stopped by my tax office to let me know Mr. Ironeagle passed. Joseph was the real deal. So, so gracious and kind. Smart, smart man. He believed that ALL Canada is traditional First Nation territory and that a First Nation employee should not pay income tax. He did all the leg work and I just filed the exceptions adjustments. He fought the government and he won! I will not say the amounts but he was so proud. I was too. When he called the office he told the receptionist, "Tell Pat "The Trailblazer" is on the line". I told them to put Mr. Ironeagle through. He was truly a trailblazer. Very tenacious. Angel, I met you a few times at the office. Your Dad was a great man and put you on the path to a great career. Rest in peace, Joseph. You will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Patricia Mason (Friend) on: Mar 19, 2015

  • My memories of Jerry are full of fun and laughter, as He was always joking about something...Always happy to see me even if it was a little while. Sometimes, as many as a few years!! Always had that big smile and twinkle in his eye. Always asked if I was OK, and if I needed money..if he seen me in Wpg. My most deepest condolences to all the family. They claim time heals everything. No, it's always there, just hidden silently,so close to the surface. We never can or will forget those loving ones that left us. It was God's will, we wanted to keep them here with us, but..it was so hard to see them suffer. So,God called them home, to a wonderful place, where there is life eternal. Jerry, you are not dead, it's just your body that is lying there, for you are free from it and you're with your loved ones that have gone on before. We miss you here, but happy you are suffering no more. Till we meet again Jerry. XOXO. Cousin Audrey - Posted by: Audrey Redford Rawluk (cousin ) on: Mar 17, 2015

  • Met the family in the early 60s when I came to Fairford as I was asked to leave home and his Mom and Dad took me in and I stayed with them for quite a few years and felt like I was part of the family and even considered all the other kids as my siblings and never was treated bad by the parents, was always treated equal and now my little brother will never suffer no more as he beat that cancer when he entered heaven's door. R.I.P Little Brother till we meet again,,,,,,,,,Amen - Posted by: Angus Eastman Winnipeg .Mb (Close friend of family ) on: Mar 05, 2015
