EDITH (EDIE) WILLIAMS It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, granny, aunt, and great-aunt, Edith "Edie" Williams (nee McGregor). Edie was born on July 19, 1921 on the homestead in Melvin, MB. She slipped peacefully away in her home in Sidney waiting to go "to town" to shop on Monday, March 2, 2015. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Elizabeth; siblings, Elizabeth, Martha, Annie, Christina, John, James, Hugh, Kate, Mary, and George; her first husband, Tom Nesbit in 1950 and second husband, Kenneth Williams in 1982. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Heather (Craig), Kendra, Brittany, Ashton, Landon Thomson; son Brad (Sally), Tiffany (Cole Redpath), Jimmy Williams; sister-in law, Pauline Winter; numerous nieces and nephews; special neighbours, Greg and Diane Buchanan, and many friends. After completing school, Edie was a great live-in support to her older sister Elizabeth's family where she formed strong bonds with her nieces and nephews. In 1946, Edie married Tom Nesbit and they were married for four years before his sudden passing. Edie married Ken Williams in 1951, and they were married for 31 years. Edie and Ken had two children, Heather and Brad. Edie worked for some time at Richelieu Manufacturing in Portage la Prairie before being hired as an artifact registrar at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum in Austin for several years. Edie had a great appreciation for history and kept careful record of her family's history, which she loved to share with others. She collected countless newspaper clippings and photographs, which she fondly referred to as her "research." Over the years, Edie provided compassionate care in her home to six of her siblings who suffered illness. Granny's tender loving care was also greatly appreciated by her grandchildren who enjoyed countless sleepovers, playing cards with Granny and the great aunts and uncles, baking, gardening, and making forts outside. Granny was proud of her children and grandchildren and was an unfaltering supporter of their activities and goals. Following a two-month stay in Carberry Hospital due to a stroke in the fall of 2014, Edie was able to return to her home with the support of her family. Edie demonstrated grace and determination spending hours on her own personal rehabilitation. Her strength of character and wit were strong until her last day. She lived a genuine and honest life taking pleasure in the simple things; a good cup of tea, a drive in the country, and sharing a good laugh with loved ones. Edie will be remembered for her endless and selfless love and compassion for others, motherly instinct, many tea parties and home cooked meals at her kitchen table and in the field, great love of gardening and appreciation of animals and nature, and quick sense of humour. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In keeping with Edie's wishes, she will be laid to rest in her favourite teapot. There will be a private service and interment at a later date. If friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may be made to the War Amps (www.waramps.ca), Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.com) or a charity of choice.
