Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDANIEL (DAN) HOLOWKA November 11, 1913 March 01, 2015 With sadness, we announce that Dan passed away, peacefully, at Middlechurch Home at the age of 101. Dan will be remembered and mourned by nephews, Norris (Jennie) Pawlychka, Robert (Annette) Holowka, Dennis (Debbie) Holowka, Stan (Jennifer) Sichewski and Leo (Florence) Sichewski; also a sister, Mary Pawlychka, and brother-in-law, Nick Marchak; sister-in-law, Ida, as well as other family members, extended families and friends. Dan was predeceased by his wife Anne (Tkachuk) in 1988; his parents Mike & Anne Holowka (Woychuk) as well as three of his siblings, John, Bill and Olga. Dan was born in Skylake, MB where he spent his first years of life and also attended school. Early in age, he helped with all farm chores as he was the eldest and the family needed his help. His parents moved to Chatfield (Fishlake area) in 1929, seeking more productive farm land. His father passed away in 1941 at age 57 years of age. Dan continued to farm and also worked, hard labour, on road construction in the Interlake in the mid 1930's. In l947 he and his mother moved to Winnipeg and Dan obtained a career at Perth's as maintenance of vehicles, and worked there until his retirement. Dan met Anne in Winnipeg and they married in 1954. They both enjoyed spending time with family and friends. They enjoyed their travels to Europe, many parts of USA and Canada. They were members and very involved in St. Josaphat church and later St. Basil's. Dan enjoyed Ukrainian music, socializing and especially enjoyed telling stories of his many life experiences. For many years he enjoyed daily walks with neighbours Henry, Emil and Steve. They became very special buddies' in his life. Dan enjoyed good health until August, 2013, when he was admitted to Grace Hospital, and from thereon to Middlechurch Home. Thank you to the staff at MCH for your much needed care and a special thank you to the nurses for their compassionate care of Daniel. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt St., Winnipeg, with Fr. Walter Klimchuk officiating. Reception to follow in St. Basil's Hall. Interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
