WALTER (WALLY) STEPANIUK 1939 - 2015 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Walter (Wally) on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Seven Oaks Hospital with family at his side. He passed away peacefully after many years valiantly battling Parkinson's disease and was a true fighter to not let the disease take its toll before it had to. Walter was born January 1, 1939 in Dohiv, Ukraine to the late Denys and Katherine Stepaniuk. He and his family were displaced during the war and fortuitously were housed in a refugee camp sector controlled by the Americans in portioned Germany. They were fortunate to have a Canadian sponsor who took the whole family (five members) and immigrated to Canada arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax in late 1948. Walter was a life-long bachelor, and was gifted with all things electronic and photography. He worked for Manitoba Health Sciences for 26 years diagnosing and repairing cancer and diagnostic machines. Walter was a gardener, loved to travel in the United States in his 1965 Mercury Park Lane Convertible driving the original Route 66, and falling in love with Hawaii spending many months over the years there. His family will forever be grateful for Walter being such a devoted son who was our mother's faithful and tender caregiver for over 20 years. Over the years he attended the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Winnipeg and Calvary Temple as health allowed. Lovingly remembered by brother John (Ruth) in Winnipeg, brother Peter (Diane) in Regina, and sister Mary (Colin) Madison, Wisconsin along with Aunt Kay Stepaniuk in Warrenville, Illinois, and many cousins, nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a great-grandniece in Canada, United States, and Ukraine. Family is extremely grateful to John and Ruth Stepaniuk for their love, care, and full support of Walter and his needs as he battled Parkinson's. Also special thanks to the caring staff on Units 5 and 7 at Seven Oaks Hospital and Dr. Jason Perch, Palliative Care staff Doctors Joel Loiselle, Kim Wiebe and Doctors Borys and Mayba. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Garden and Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society Manitoba. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715
