Date of Passing: Mar 07, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (BETTY) ROMANO With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, baba, grandmother and auntie, on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 91 years of age. She is survived by her son Larry (Lynn) and daughter Judy Whitfield; grandchildren, Scott and Tyler Romano, and Lisa and David Whitfield. Mom was predeceased by our dad, Michael in 1992, as well as by her parents and brothers and sisters in the Semeniuk family. We were all blessed to have Mom in our lives, she was truly one in a million. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gonor, MB, for over 60 years. Throughout the years, she held many positions. She belonged to the U.C.W.L., taught Catechism, volunteered to visit the sick and shut-ins, baked for bridal showers, made perogies and cooked for church dinners. Any other duties that were required, were done to the best of her ability. Mom was the happiest when her hands were in the soil. She was a born farmer. She loved planting, weeding and picking fresh vegetables. Auntie Betty or Baba Betty, as she was affectionately called, was thrilled to give her bounty away. Anyone who left her home was given dill pickles, borscht and vegetables for Farmer's Soup. Her perogies and paska at Easter were a big hit, especially with her out-of town family. Mom enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino, but most of all she loved her sports. She was a big fan of the Winnipeg Jets, the Blue Bombers and the Goldeyes. She loved attending Rainbow Stage and watching the Sound of Music, over and over again. She sang along at the Daniel O'Donnell concert, she enjoyed life. It was such a blessing Mom was able to share her 90th birthday with her family, friends and neighbours. The family would like to thank the staff at Rosewood, where she resided since 2012. June, Cindy and Tess were special to her. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 6297 Henderson Hwy., in Gonor, Manitoba at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Interment to follow in the churchyard cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
