Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN RAYMOND (RAY) OATES September 6, 1918 - March 10, 2015 On March 10, 2015 Ray passed away with the angels calling him home. Ray was born September 6, 1918 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Albert Milton Oates and Jessie Oates (nee Bryson). Ray was predeceased by his parents; by his loving wife, Helen, of 69 years in 2012; and his sister Cecilia in 1945. Ray is survived by his son Gordon (Sharon) of Sidney, British Columbia; grandson Kevin (Suzanne); great-granddaughters Elizabeth and Sarah of Nanaimo, British Columbia; granddaughter Cindy (Roque) and great-grandson Oakley of Sidney, British Columbia; sister-in-laws Minnie, Carrie, Grace and Elaine Steski, and numerous nephews and nieces. Ray was a soft spoken man, whose gentle manner and thoughtful words touched all he came into contact with. Ray was always happy to share a cup of tea and a conversation with those around him at Concordia Village and Donwood Manor. Ray treasured the many visits he received from his longtime friend Allan. Special thanks to the caring staff at Donwood Manor for seeing Ray home. A funeral service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery located on Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Canadian Diabetes Association in Ray's name, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0S6. I was very sorry to hear about Uncle Ray's passing. My sympathy goes out to Gordon & Family. I didn't read the free press until it was too late to attend the service for Uncle Ray.
