HELMI CAITHNESS
Date of Passing: Mar 09, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELMI (TORCHY) CAITHNESS It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helmi Caithness, with family at her side, on March 9, 2015. She was known to her friends as Torchy. Torchy was predeceased by Bill, her beloved husband of 63 years. Torchy is survived by her son Randy (Coleen); grandchildren Shannon and Ryan (Johanna); son Gary (Kathy); sister Elvi Palmgren of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where she lived until she joined the RCAF in 1942. While stationed overseas at No. 6 Headquarters in Northern England she met her beloved husband Bill. Upon returning to Canada they were married in Sault Ste. Marie on May 27, 1946 and were fortunate to return to England many times to the place where they fell in love. She was always so very proud of her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. They will always remember her games of Bingo along with her unique and caring prizes. Mom loved to cook and her sons looked forward to the Finnish pancakes she made for them; and of course Bill loved her homemade perogies. Torchy loved her sweets with dessert being the favorite part of the meal. Mom's wish was for her family to enjoy their life and left us with this thought: Miss Me But Let Me Go When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long And not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared; Miss me but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take And each must go alone, For it's all part of the Master's plan A step on the road to home. So when you're lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds. Miss me but let me go. At Torchy's request cremation has taken place to be followed by a private family service at a later date. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the loving and caring nurses and health care aids at Tuxedo Villa for the compassionate care of our dear Mom.
