Drin, I was shocked and saddened to see Matt's name in the latest issue of the Univ. of Manitoba "Today" Magazine (Sept/15). I thought it must have been a different Matt Jones, because "our Matt" was bigger than life. I had the great pleasure of working with Matt on many political campaigns, he most often as official agent, and me as election day coordinator. He had a great mind, a terrific smile and a contagious laugh, which we thankfully heard often. Although I hadn't seen Matt in a few years, I had thought of him often and I will definitely miss his presence. May he be resting in peace. - Posted by: Laurie Etkin (Political Friend) on: Oct 03, 2015

Dear Jones Family, The loss of your loved one is indeed a sad one. I do remember fondly that we started our teaching careers on the same day: June 1, 1961. May you find comfort in remembering all the good things he has done and how much he achieved in his life. May God's blessing be with you, and may he rest in peace. At the wedding of Linzy, (Matthew's Nephew) and Leanne Jones and other future occasions Matthew and myself hit it off and were on the same page, so to speak and Drin had to interject with "what are you guys up to". Babysitting Marsha, Colin & Tyson was one of my favourite things to do as a teenager, I knew the next morning we would have breakfast lovingly made by Aunty Drin or we'd go to Smittys, etc. or shopping at the mall. Uncle Matthew always asked about my academics and if I needed anything and I always said things were good. I loved the way his face would light up when he heard his favorite song, Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh and his attempt to sing it. Every time I hear that song to this day I think of my Uncle Matthew. Aunty Drin, Marsha, Colin & Tyson I wish I could be there to say farewell and lend any help where possible, but I can send my love. RIP Uncle Matthew. - Posted by: Shelley Jones (Niece) on: Mar 18, 2015

I met Matthew and Drin in 1972. We have kept in touch over the years. I will remember Matthew as softly spoken, with a sense of humour, and yes, that twinkle in his eye. I spoke to Drin recently and realized that Matthew's time was near. He is now out of his pain and at peace. To Drin and family my thoughts and prayers are with you. Drin I KNOW you have the strength to weather this storm. Speak to you soon. Ann - Posted by: Ann Lee Macfarlane (Friend) on: Mar 18, 2015

Thanks to Matt for his inspiration on behalf of the hundreds of CGA students that he lectured over the years. Yes, he made accounting interesting and was known as an accountant with a personality. So sad that Matt has left us. A true friend, very supportive and helpful to many. A true role model to the Vincentian and wider community. He was always generous with his time giving a lending hand to the community and in sharing his skills, knowledge and ideas to all. Matt was one of those persons who had a positive effect on those he associated with and he has really left lasting memories on those who got to know him well. We regret that we cannot be there to say good bye to our dear friend Matthew. Our deepest sympathies - Posted by: Verona, Sheri, Nicole,Ella and John Jack (Great friend) on: Mar 18, 2015

So sorry to hear of Matt's passing. He was such a gentleman, kind, thoughtful and always so willing to assist. I recall him always so well dressed, quite debonair, and he spoke softly and so eloquent and who can forget that warm, sweet smile with a twinkle in his eye. Drin and family please find peace and comfort in beautiful memories, the love and laughter that you shared. I Pray that the passage of time will help you all to heal the pain of loss in your hearts.
