FRANK MCKENDRY Frank was born on February 26, 1934 to Frank and Sarah Mckendry. He attended Cecil Rhodes School from grade one through nine and St. Johns Tech. and Tech Voc. High Schools, graduating in June, 1952. After graduating, Frank joined the RCAF where he trained as a ground radar technician. He served at the RCAF Station, Edgar Ontario where he met his wife, Ruby Osmond, a beautiful and fascinating Newfoundlander. They married in August, 1956 and had two girls -Leslie in 1958 and Tracy in 1960. Frank believed that if you take something out of life you should at least try to put something back in. In 1959, He joined the Transcona Kinsmen and the Transcona Curling Club. He served on the curling club board of directors for four years. Job pressures precluded any further involvement until 1970 when he became one of the founding members of the Jessica Lake Sailing Club. His love of sailing and need to serve led to him being elected Vice President and eventually President of the Manitoba Sailing Association. He also served as Vice President of the Canadian Yachting Association. Frank lay low for a while until, in 1986, after 30 years of work with a very large computer company, he retired. He then searched for other opportunities to volunteer and joined the Manitoba Liberal Party, serving in too many positions to mention. Frank was proud to have been elected chairman of the party's provincial council in 2002 and re-elected in 2003. In recognition of his service, he was made a life member of the Manitoba Liberal Party in 2004. He then retired for good and settled down with his corn patch in South Transcona where he enjoyed the company of his many friends at his annual corn roasts and Canada Day barbecues. Frank's family would like to thank the staff on 5A in the cardiology unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their patient and compassionate care. The service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the Transcona Legion Branch #7, 117 Regent Avenue East. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Transcona Legion Branch #7. • I first met Frank around 1970 as Ruby and my wife worked together at the Bay. Frank was never afraid to give his opinion but his opinions were well founded and I learned a lot from him. Frank felt there were two kinds of people, leaders and followers, and Frank was certainly a leader. His contributions to the many associations he was affiliated with were examples of how he lived his life. Frank liked to create things with his hands and was good at anything he did. HIs woodcarvings and the furniture he built for his home are just a few examples. Frank was a fine man and will be surely missed. - Posted by: Don MacLean (Friend) on: Mar 22, 2015

  • To Frank's family, I worked with Frank for only a short time before I was required to move out of Winnipeg. Frank was fun to be around and was always there for you when you needed help. One always knew that if Frank had something to say, it was well worthwhile to listen to. I am sorry for your loss, and I'm sure you will miss him greatly. - Posted by: Leonard Kaspick (Work Associate) on: Mar 21, 2015

  • I often wish I had known Frank 30 years ago, he might have changed my life but then I was only a teen so I probably wouldn't have listened. He liked to argue but he made you think. I was honoured to be able to sit with the "Old Guys" at their special table at the Legion. Conversations were not always politically correct and the jokes were as old as they were but they were fun. I will miss my Saturday afternoon chats with Frank. - Posted by: Faye Jashyn (Friend) on: Mar 21, 2015

  • Our condolences to Frank's friends and family. We met Frank through my uncle Alan Patterson MLA. We enjoyed talking politics and world affairs with him. He will be missed. - Posted by: Lorne and Arlene Verville (Freinds) on: Mar 21, 2015
