KATHARINA (TINA) BROWN Katharina (Tina) Brown, aged 94, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the St. Boniface Hospital. She was born November 25, 1920 in Edenthal, Manitoba the eldest of 11 children. She married Peter Brown on October 4, 1941 and they were blessed with over 73 years of marriage. Tina had a great love of children, teaching, cooking, sewing, gardening, travelling, serving in the church and many were blessed by her gift of hospitality. Her church community was always very important to Tina and she was very involved in all the churches she attended, leading ladies groups and teaching Sunday School. Green things loved her and responded to her love for them. Her house was always full of beautiful plants and the yard full of flowers. She worked for many years as a cook at the Mennonite Brethren Bible College (now Canadian Mennonite University) and volunteered her time to do the same for 12 years at Camp Arnes. She was loved not only for her delicious cooking but also for her ready smile and cheerful nature. Her strong faith in Jesus and her optimistic outlook on life carried her through many difficult times including 14 years of dialysis treatments. Her legacy of love, faith, kindness and hope will live on for many years to come. Predeceased by her daughter Esther, son Robert and daughter-in-law Kathy (Boldt), two brothers and four sisters, she will be deeply missed by her husband Peter, children Violet (John) Rademaker, John (Jane Sigurdson), Lillian (Dennis) Poetker, Eva (Doug) Wiebe and Ruth (Vern) Martens, her 26 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, her three surviving sisters and one brother. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Dialysis Unit for their excellent care over the last 14 years. We also thank the nurses and staff of 6A South at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and kindness during Tina's last days. We rejoice that she is free from all pain and suffering, fully alive and fully free. Viewing will be held on Friday, March 20 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 1:00 p.m. at Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 1420 Portage Avenue. A private family burial will take place prior to the service. Donations in Tina's memory can be made to Square One World Media, 225 Riverton Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

  • I was shocked to see her picture in the paper on Friday morning. She was a pleasant person every time we saw her at the hearing clinic. I'm sure she will be greatly missed by you all. Please accept our sympathy in her passing. - Posted by: Dianne (Winnipeg Hearing Centres) on: Mar 20, 2015
