JACOB (JAKE) PETERS 1925 - 2015 March 20, 2015 was the first day of spring, and - after passing quietly at Grace Hospital - the first day for Jacob "Jake" Peters in his new heavenly home. Jacob was born in the village of Blumenort, November 23, 1925, one of 11 siblings. His early life was influenced by the values of his Mennonite community: generosity, honesty, helping your neighbour, and practising a healthy lifestyle. Jake's most important value though was his belief in Jesus Christ. He served his church for years on the Board and was active in Olive Branch Ministries, Union Gospel Mission, and Living Bible Explorers to name only a few. After moving to Lions Place in 2013 he preached and played guitar at church services there. Some of his last words at the hospital included a conversation with his nurse about salvation. Jake was always willing to venture forth'. After working at everything from farming to milkman to lumberjack in his early adult years he chose a career in real estate where he built his own agency and managed several of his own properties. Jake liked to keep busy. Active in Toast Masters, a published storyteller and author, and an avid golfer, he also took time for fishing, camping, and visiting with friends and family. On July 1, 1951 Jacob married Ivy Giesbrecht. They shared many values, disagreed on some issues, but both agreed on the value of marriage. In 2010 they celebrated 59 years together. Jake was predeceased by his wife Ivy, to whom he provided faithful and steadfast support through a long illness, and whose passing he deeply mourned. He is survived by his children Wendy (Jeff), Walter (Barb), Wayne and Will, grandchildren Jason, Cheralyn (Bryan), Tiffany (Chris), Brianna (Mack), and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mennonite Central Committee. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715
