HELEN MARGARET ALLAN
Date of Passing: Mar 20, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN MARGARET ALLAN (nee AULT) It is with great sadness that we said good-bye to our incredible mother, grandma and great-grandma on March 20, 2015 after celebrating her 100th birthday on February 22. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Clyde Allan in 2010. She is survived by her five children, David (Laura) - Kingston, ON, Marlene (Tony) - Oshawa, On, Shirley (Victor) - Winnipeg, MB, Lois (Roland) - Winnipeg, MB, Grant (Coral) - Alice Springs, Australia; her 12 grandchildren; almost 21 great-grandchildren; her sister Kit Airey of Indiana; Clyde's sister Jean Styan of Winnipeg, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family was a very important part of her life and always amazed everyone with her ability to remember everyone, their connection and their birthdays. Helen was the oldest of Catherine and Ansel Ault's six children. She graduated from Success Business College at the age of 16 and began her working career at Great West Saddlery, where she met her future husband Clyde. Helen returned to the workforce in 1965 after raising her children, working at Canadian Bronze until her retirement in 1980. Helen and Clyde loved to travel and traveled extensively after retirement, visiting family and friends in many parts of the world. They made six trips to Australia to visit their son Grant. Mum was very much loved and admired by her Australian family. After supporting Clyde's passion for curling for many years, Helen started curling at the age of 65. She was named the CTV Sport Star of the Week' in 2010 at the age of 95. She hung up her broom at the age of 96, but continued to avidly follow all aspects of the game. The Thistle Curling Club will be honouring her with the inaugural Helen Allan Sportsmanship Award' to be presented in April 2015. Always a proper lady, Mom was a combination of strength and grace. Her kind and generous nature had her putting the needs of others before her own. She was known for baking wonderful treats and would ensure everyone's favourites were "on hand" when they came for a visit. For the past 11 years she has been part of the Lindenwood Estates "family" and an active participant in all facets of the Estates "life". She cherished the many friendships she formed there. She was loved, admired and respected by all who knew her. She will be sadly missed, remembered with much fondness and never forgotten. Rest in Peace Mom/Mum. We all love you!! With eyes as blue as the ocean She's lived 100 years in this land With her hair pinned up every night for bed She's surely the queen of our clan. A celebration of Life will be held at Charleswood United Church on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charleswood United Church, the March of Dimes Canada donation to the Conductive Education or charity of your choice.
