Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJESSIE CUTHBERT THOMPSON (PROCTOR) One month short of 101, Jess Thompson passed away February 17, 2015 in Terrace, BC while visiting her daughter and son-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Clarence (Tom) James Thompson and her two sisters and seven brothers. She leaves a sister- in-law, Phyllis Moss, her daughter Cheryl Brown (Terry) and her grandchildren Stacey (Marty), David (Nicole) and Gregory (Christine) and six great-grandchildren Maya, Asher, Caleb, Jorja, Liam and Evan. Jess was born March 18, 1914 in Elm Creek Manitoba two months before the start of the First World War. She was fourth in a family of ten kids to Annie and John Proctor. She spent her early child hood in the interlake area and at the age of 10 moved to St. Vital. Jess and Tom met in St. Vital as neighbourhood kids and Tom was a good friend of her brothers. They married in 1939 and lived in Dartmouth from 1942 to 1946 during the Second World War where Tom was stationed as an officer and electrician on the submarines. They returned to Winnipeg after the war and their daughter Cheryl (Brown) was born in 1948 and was their only child. Cheryl and all the subsequent grandchildren and great-grandchildren were Grandma's pride. Jess and Tom bought a property at Nutimik Lake in Whiteshell Provincial Park in 1953, and built a cottage in 1973 for their grandchildren Stacey, David and Gregory. There were 60 years of wildlife observation, canoe rides and peaceful living at the Lake. Jess lived in her house at 11 Tod Drive, St. Vital until the end. Tom and Jess started Service Electric Co. in 1950 and in 1960 Tom built their house as the first electric house in Winnipeg in St. Vital. Jess was a true Winnipegger. She loved to visit her family in the west but she never left her house for long. She revelled in the long cold bright winters and loved the heat of the summers. Weather and the condition of the crops along with the level of the river were always the first topic of conversation. As a family we will miss her resolve, determination and curiosity of life. A celebration of life will be held Friday, April 3rd at 11 Tod Drive from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations in Jessie's memory can be made to the charity or cause of choice.

Cheryl and family So sorry for your loss. Jess was a great neighbour and long time friend with our mom. We shall miss seeing her working in her yard and her visits. That corner of the bay will never be the same with two fine ladies absent. - Posted by: Carol and Dave McLeod (Neighbour) on: Apr 03, 2015
