He was known as "Big John" to our family. We moved to Best Street in the summer of 1988. Our oldest son John was 5 at the time. Both of these two males liked to be outside in the backyard and garage during the summer. When I would call our son in to the house, poor Big John thought I was calling to him! Hence the need for Big John's nick name. We deliberately designed our backyard fence height so we could talk to Big John over the fence. I used to think my husband and Big John were worse than a bunch of women as they would be talking at the fence so long! Big John was a very thoughtful and considerate man and we will miss him. - Posted by: Sharon Bain (Neighbor on Best Stree) on: Apr 02, 2015

Sorry to hear of John's passing. His legacy at GWWD still resonates and reflects his inventive nature and common sense. He always worked well with the young staff and was willing to share his diverse talents. A good, reserved, caring man with a twinkle in his eye! He will be missed by his co-workers. - Posted by: Ed Clarkson (Co-worker) on: Mar 31, 2015

A gentle giant of a man. Rock solid like his younger brothers. I wish I'd known him better. - Posted by: Sheldon Dyck (Nephew) on: Mar 31, 2015
