Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN EVELYN MINOR (KEEN) September 15, 1932 - March 28, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Evelyn Minor (Keen) on March 28, 2015 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Joan's passing leaves her sons Andrew (Trina), David (Christine) and grandchildren Erin, Miles, Ryan, Alexander, Madeline and Lisa with heavy hearts and cherished memories. Joan is survived by sisters Betty Lee of Winnipeg, and Lenore Fletcher of Lethbridge, Alberta, as well as many more nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Morley, son Greg, daughter-in-law Shelley Minor (Leclair), parents Thomas and Dorothy Keen (Middleton), sister Doreen Stacey and brother Jim Keen. Joan was born at the old Grace Hospital in Winnipeg and spent her early childhood years in St. Vital prior to the family picking up roots and relocating to St. James. After completing grade XI, Joan left school and started working with the Bank of Montreal at the Portage and Goulding branch. It was here she worked alongside her future husband; Morley; they were married in September 1955. At this point Joan was presented with the option of being a farmer's wife or an engineer's wife. The decision was clear. Joan continued with the bank working hard to support the family while Morley completed his Engineering degree. Following graduation in 1958, Joan left the bank and with Morley began their journey together living in Hydro communities across Manitoba including Seven Sisters, Great Falls, Kelsey, Thompson and Grand Rapids, where they enjoyed curling and dancing and developed many lifelong friendships. Joan and Morley returned to Winnipeg in 1966 to raise their family. Joan was a dedicated mother, volunteering her time to community centers, school libraries and Sunday school when not selflessly shuttling boys to various sporting events over the years. Joan retired with Morley in 1992 and they enjoyed many years at the family cottage at Whytewold Beach and travelling to destinations in Canada and the United States. Joan was a gentle contented person who exuded love for all those in her midst. Joan was all about family and friends and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 9, at 11am at Kirkfield Park United Church, 472 Kirkfield St., Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, staff and the Spiritual Care Workers at the Grace Hospital for their help and care during Mom's final days. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Grace Hospital Foundation or Cancer Care Manitoba. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Joan was a beautiful person, knowing her improved our lives. She was so positive and kind. She was a caring mother. She was a great example to me on how to nurture my children. It was lovely to see how everyone respected her and just enjoyed being around her. My condolences to Joan's family. - Posted by: Celine Weber (family friend) on: Apr 09, 2015
