Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN SOPHIA HAYWARD (nee THORGILSSON) A life-long resident of Lundar, Joan Hayward was born on December 24, 1933 and passed away peacefully at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale, MB on April 2, 2015 at the age of 81 years. Joan married Fred Hayward in 1952 and they moved to the farm west of Lundar where she resided until her passing. Joan was a strong, hard working woman devoted to her family. She worked on the family farm while raising children and then worked in Lundar, Eriksdale, Oak Point and St. Laurent at the local hotels/motels. She also worked for 15 years at Interlake Regional Health Authority (IRHA) providing home care services to those in need. She always put the needs of others before her own. She retired from the "town jobs" at the age of 65 but continued to farm and own cattle to this day. Mom was an avid curler in her day and spent many, many hours watching curling on TV in her later years. Frequent phone calls were made to friends, family and neighbours to ensure everyone knew a curling game was on TV. The cable company definitely heard from her if there was a curling game missed!! A wonderful cook and baker, there was always homemade bread, buns, doughnuts, vinatarta, etc., when neighbors and friends stopped in for coffee. Mom loved the gals from the "Birthday Club" and enjoyed every breakfast she was able to attend with them. Her memory will be cherished by her children; Kelvin (Wade) of Winnipeg, Wayne of Lundar, Brenda (Lionel) of Humble, TX and Floyd (Susan) of Lundar; her grandchildren and the light of her life Eric and Laura Hayward and Kayla and Tanner Sigurdson, to whom she was known as "Amma". She is also survived by her brothers Einar (Sylvia) of Lundar and Clifford (Shirley) of Beausejour; brother-in-law Les (Margaret) of Lundar and sister-in-law Eva Rey of Winnipeg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by her devoted pets, Socks and Lacy. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Fred as well as her parents Thorgils and Lilja, and her sister Hazel Nelson (Emil). Heartfelt thanks go out to the doctors, nurses and ALL the staff at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital. You all treated Mom with tender loving care and tended to her every need. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts! A celebration of Joan's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015 at the Lundar Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment to be held in the Lundar Municipal Cemetery with a lunch to follow in the Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the new Lundar Sportsplex c/o Grettir Co-op Inc., PO Box 334, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0. Kelvin, Wayne, Brenda, Floyd & your families, I was so very sorry to hear that your Mom had passed. When Brenda called that morning to tell me I didn't want to answer the phone, I knew what she was going to say. But I also knew that your Mom had been so sick and I didn't want her to suffer anymore. Our two families have been best friends for so many years, I think of you "kids" as part of my family. Your Dad & Mom were best friends with my Dad & Mom, and we all carried on the tradition. Brenda has been the younger sister I never had, and your Mom & I had a very close friendship for many, many years. Your Mom was the kindest, most generous woman and once you were her friend, you knew you had a friend for life! She had an incredible zest for life. Her baking was amazing and there was always some of it on the table, along with coffee, minutes after you walked in. Pete first met your Mom the day we were married and he had a very dear friend from that day on. We never went to Lundar that we didn't go out to the farm. We both loved your Mom very much and we will miss her so much but the wonderful memories we have of her we will never forget. I am so sorry that we couldn't be home for her funeral. We will always be here for each of you if you ever need anything. With our love and condolences, Pete & Janet xxx - Posted by: Janet Donahoe (Paulson) (Friend) on: Apr 24, 2015

So sorry about Joan, she was such a vivacious woman, I remember my dad Lawrence Taylor and Edith used to enjoy Fred and Joan's company. I'm sure she will be sorely missed. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. My heart goes out to the family. - Posted by: Sheila Webb (Taylor) (Friend) on: Apr 07, 2015
