Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • For many years when I was User Services manager Pat would stop by to say hello on his regular jaunts across town to the Computer Center to deliver or pick up his Health Policy Center data tapes. He was a mainstay user of our services, expecting rigorous security but unfailingly polite. It was always a pleasure to chat with him on those occasions. He was friendly, interesting and, like Les and every other member of his team I met, showed a deep commitment to the Center's research. Many of the CC staff will remember him well too. It feels like a piece of the Computer Center's past has gone with him. I'm so sorry to hear he has died - way too soon. My condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. - Posted by: Dianne Cox (Former UofM Computer Services contact - retired 2006.) on: Apr 23, 2015

  • He was a old-school hacker. With the old-school definition of the latter: a badge of honor rather than a terrorist label. His explanations could be daunting but there was never any doubt they were right. They don't make 'em like that anymore... - Posted by: Henry Dyck (Co-worker, short-time) on: Apr 21, 2015

  • I knew and worked with Pat since 1991 - and he never ceased to amaze me with his incredible memory for important details. I will miss his extraordinary store of knowledge as well as his great sense of humour. My condolences to his family. Rest in peace Pat. - Posted by: Marni Brownell (co-worker) on: Apr 18, 2015

  • Having worked with Pat for more than 20 of his 40 year contribution to MCHP, I can say that Pat is truly missed here. A day doesn't go by that I don't think that Pat would have the answer to this problem. My deepest condolences to his family. - Posted by: Shelley Derksen (Co-worker) on: Apr 17, 2015

  • Pat and I worked closely together from the mid 1970s to shortly before his untimely death. He was responsible for the initial data processing, contributing greatly to the growth and success of the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. Pat stayed with us through thick and thin, enabling the development of world class data bases. Our long chats about challenges and opportunities will remain with me. As Pat kept emphasizing, the last one per cent of data quality is important! - Posted by: Leslie Roos (co-workerzx) on: Apr 16, 2015

  • Pat was a tremendous asset to the group I worked with at U of M. He was always willing to share the tremendous knowledge he had accumulated over the the many years he had worked here and he was an expert on issues of data acquisition and the research data milieu in Winnipeg. As both a colleague and a co-worker he will be deeply missed. Rest in peace JPN. - Posted by: Mark Smith ((Co-worker)) on: Apr 13, 2015

  • I appreciated Pat's friendly, approachable nature. He was always willing to share his knowledge and he had a wonderful sense of humour. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Linda Kostiuk (Co-worker) on: Apr 10, 2015
