HELEN GADDOWS Peacefully, with her family by her side Helen passed away on April 8, 2015 into the loving arms of Jesus. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Marcia (Murray), Vern (Morna) and Valerie (Bruce), five grandchildren, their spouses, and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband John of 61 years, her parents Nicholas and Mary Kurian and brothers William and Harry and their spouses. Helen was born October 18, 1923 in Elma, Manitoba. She enjoyed a happy childhood and had many fond memories of the one room schoolhouse. She moved to Winnipeg to complete her high school education in Elmwood. She then completed courses at Robertson Business College and went on to a successful career with the Canadian Pacific Railway. Upon the birth of her first child she became a devoted homemaker. During those years she was also a committed volunteer in her church, Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. She taught Sunday school for 23 years and faithfully served in many other capacities within the church. She was very passionate in her personal study of the scriptures. She has left her family with a rich Godly heritage. Her faith was steadfast and we rejoice with confidence her arrival in heaven. The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to the staff and students at Grace Hospice for their exceptional love and tender care they extended to Helen. Funeral Services will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Reverend Jamie Howison officiating. For those who wish to make a donation in Helen's memory, the family has chosen the Grace Hospital Foundation (Hospice), 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 3M7. • We would like to extend our sympathies to Marcia, Vernon, Valerie & their families on the passing of their mother & grandmother. As I reminisce through the years as far back as my childhood years I remember the summer holidays that I was able to spend with Auntie Helen & Uncle John. Auntie Helen always had a backyard vegetable garden where we spent many hours picking & cleaning them. One thing I remember is the pound cake Auntie Helen used to bake and also the waffles in the morning. They were both my favorites. Auntie Helen, being my dad's only sister, made her a very special lady to us. Over the years we always visited and kept in touch; but as time passes and families grow we drifted apart. Auntie Helen will always hold a special place in my heart. May she rest in peace. Vichnayut Pamyut. Niece Marlene, Harry & Family - Posted by: Marlene, Harry & Family (Niece) on: Apr 17, 2015
