HEATHER JEAN ROBERTSON Heather Robertson, also known as nee-Ka-nee pinay see Kweh, which means Leader - Thunderbird Woman, passed peacefully after a courageous battle with breast cancer, at home with family by her side, on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the age of 53 years. Heather is survived by her mother, Dawna Robertson; sister Sharon (Arthur) Officer of Winnipeg, Manitoba; nieces Brenda (Colin) Friesen and Ashley Officer; grand-nephew Dexter; as well as Aunt Barbara of Brandon, Manitoba, Aunt Shirley of Calgary, Alberta and Aunt Gwen of Parry Sound. She was predeceased by her father John Bruce Robertson in 2001. On January 19, 1962, Heather was born in Glenboro, Manitoba to John Bruce Robertson, who was born in Calgary, and Dawna Marie Robertson (nee Smith) who was born in Toronto, Ontario. Heather graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1986 with a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and went on to earn her Post-Baccalaureate Special Education Certificate in 1994. After graduation in 1986, she moved to Little Grand Rapids, and in 1988 Heather moved to Langruth, Manitoba and taught at Isaac Beaulieu Memorial School, Sandy Bay First Nation for 26 years. Aside from teaching Heather loved to travel, go camping, and watch theatrical performances. She was in some ways still a child at heart and took great pleasure in the simplest of tasks such as playing with children, both in and out of the classroom. No child under Heather's care went without a birthday cake, and a birthday gift, and no child at Christmas went without a toy and a bag of treats. A Celebration of Heather's Life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the Sandy Bay First Nation Complex, 110 Main Road, Marius, MB, with Fr. Jose Cabral, presider. A reception will follow and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Heather's life. The family would like to thank all those in the Palliative Care Community Program for their effort, care and dedication. Also thanks to God's angels on Earth, Lynne Stevens, Norma Nelson, Rina Roulette, Lisa Brinkworth and Angie Brinkworth; also all of Heather's friends and co-workers. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Heather's name to the Isaac Beaulieu Memorial School, at Sandy Bay First Nation, Box 108, Marius, MB R0H 0T0, care of Norma Nelson.
