PAULINE JOSEPHINE SANFORD (nee KARDYNAL) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife Pauline Sanford on April 12, 2015 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Pauline was predeceased by her parents Harry Kardynal and Mary (Senkiw) Kardynal; stepfather John Chernowsky; her son Johnny; her daughter Susie; her granddaughters Sarah and Jade; her sisters Josephine, Nelly and Victoria; her brothers Walter, Dan and Harry; brothers-in-law Norman, Ray, Willie and Hector; and her sister-in-law Marlene. She leaves to mourn, her loving husband Gerald Sanford; daughters Nancy (Brian), Judy (Barry) and Bren; sons Ben, Chet and Gerry; son-in-law Russ; grandchildren Shaun (Shannon), Melissa, Aaron, Andrew, Kyle, Ryan and Cole; her great-grandchildren Kyle and Lucy; her siblings Anne, Rose, Mable, Jane and Myron (Margaret), sister-in-law Marg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pauline's father and mother came from the townships of Moscischa and Holowczyncy in the territory formerly known as Galicia, Western Ukraine. They immigrated to North America, where they eventually settled in the Stenen/Sturgis area of Saskatchewan, where Pauline was born on January 3, 1935. As a young woman, she moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she raised her eight children. Pauline worked for the Winnipeg School Division before retiring in 1989. Pauline loved the outdoors, especially gardening. She found great joy in sitting on her back porch, watching and feeding the wild birds; and in her early years, she enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting. Her biggest passion was her grandchildren. She absolutely adored them and was thrilled any time they would come over to brighten her day. Pauline will be lovingly remembered and always missed by her family and friends. She will be in our hearts forever. A private family interment will take place. Please join the family for a reception that will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, located at 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, with Pastor Rev. Bruce Martin officiating. The family extends their sincere appreciation to all of the staff at Cancer Care Clinic 3 and all the nurses and care givers on the fifth floor at the Women's Centre, who were so compassionate and attentive to Pauline's needs throughout this difficult time. After the clouds, the sunshine After the winter, the spring After the shower, the rainbow For life is a changeable thing After the night, the morning Bidding all darkness cease After life's cares and sorrows The comfort and sweetness of peace Helen Steiner Rice Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

  • Pauline was the most loving and happy person....always a smile, always so upbeat....for all that she went thru, was amazing to watch and hear her....what an example to others who go thru tough times...her comment one day when her and her daughter were going thru chemo at the same time....."we just have to suck it up" her laugh will always be remembered....her positive attitude something to keep in mind as we go thru tough times. So thankful we got to see her last summer. She knew our prayers were always there for her and the family.... - Posted by: Ernie & Jane Kilbrai ( Sister and Brother - in- Lae) on: Apr 15, 2015
