Date of Passing: Apr 12, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSALIE JUNE MACKAY (nee SAWCHUK) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rosalie June MacKay, beloved wife of Barry MacKay on April 12, 2015. Mother to Coralie (Ted) Bezpalko and Loral (Scott) Hildebrand. Grandmother to Rheanne (Glenn) Unryn, Jordan (Jasmine) Bosse, Cale (Rebecca) Hildebrand and Lee (Kevin) Pauls. Great-grandmother to Xavier and Rosalie Bosse and Travis and Teagan Unryn. Sister and sister-in-law to Richard (Martha) and Ronald Sawchuk. Raised in Elmwood, Rosalie finished commercial courses at Lord Selkirk High School and went to work at Great West Life as a messenger, with her dear friend Joan Melanson (nee Erikson). It was at Great West Life, in the mailroom, where she met Barry, the love of her life. Married in 1957, they quickly set about raising their two daughters. Over the years, Rosalie honed her domestic skills. She loved to cook and did so superbly. She had a family reputation for splendid flavours and feeding large groups of people - the more the merrier. She was an artist in the kitchen and especially enjoyed creating borscht by the pot full, roasters of holubchi and the most delicious apple tarts. Rosalie was always happiest surrounded by family and friends. She made friends very easily and never sent anyone away hungry. She loved her garden and supervised Barry's flower planting and landscaping duties with diligence. She loved her car rides. Whether driving to the United States, South Beach, Club Regent, Flin Flon or the annual Neepawa Lily Festival, Rosalie was there with bells on. Give her a deck of cards and she was a happy camper. Whether it was canasta at West Hawk Lake, a cribbage match at Pickerel Lake, or taking her dad and uncles to the cleaners at poker, she was always ready and willing. Rosalie worked for many years for the United Church of Canada, Manitoba Conference offices and at the Winnipeg Presbytery. A member of Immanuel United Church, Rosalie enjoyed her study and movie groups and the friends she made there. She also enjoyed working behind the scenes preparing for the annual fowl supper. She will be missed by her many friends and extended family. Thank you to her dear friend and neighbour Regina McDonald, Martha Sawchuk for her special attention and loving care to Rosalie while in hospital, Muriel and Bob Kenyon, Betty Patton, the Oncology staff at Concordia Hospital and the team at Access River East. A Memorial Service will be held at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie Street at Kimberly Avenue, on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie St., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2K 2V4. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenedenmemorial.ca Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

When my family moved to Winnipeg we were reeling from the loss of my father, youngest sister, and my maternal grandmother. Rosalie (a lifelong friend to my mother) and Barry became family to us. We enjoyed Rosalie's great cooking and wonderful hospitality many, many times. She even sent boxes of her wonderful snacks to Toronto when I got married. I am very lucky that she was part of my life. - Posted by: Glen Melanson (Friend) on: Apr 19, 2015

Rosalie was always involved with something at the church. She was either working at the Fowl Supper or making desserts for the Dessert Theater. She was a good friend to our mother, and a kind hearted individual. She will be missed. - Posted by: Cathy Haining (Friend) on: Apr 17, 2015

I think of Rosalie as one of the "quiet faithful" who would somehow be able to muster up a smile, no matter what. Her sense of humour twinkling in her eyes and her gentle friendship will be missed by more than me. - Posted by: Lynne Strome () on: Apr 15, 2015
