WILLIAM LYLE PATRICK MARK
Born: Feb 10, 1961
Date of Passing: Apr 16, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM LYLE PATRICK MARK February 10, 1961 - April 16, 2015 With aching hearts, the family announces the sudden death of our son, brother and uncle, Bill (BJ) on April 16, 2015, peacefully at his home. Predeceased by his father, Bill (September 1999), he is survived by his mother Rose; sisters, Jacquie and Cori; brother Robert (Bob) and his children, Tori, Robert (Bubba), Alycia and Christopher; and his great-nephews, Quinn and Roman; and his self-adopted brother Rick Allen. He will also be missed by aunts, uncles and cousins and many, many friends. Bill grew up in Crestview, attending Crestview, Voyageur, Ness and Sturgeon Creek Schools and loved to talk about his school experiences. After finishing school, Bill worked at Allan Lyon and then at Winpak, where he remained for over 30 years until his health interfered. He loved his time at Winpak and was very involved with the social committee and enjoyed bringing his family along for the fun. Bill had a humongous passion for sports. He would sit and discuss sports with anyone who wanted to listen, or not. He played community baseball, school basketball and rugby, and his biggest pride, playing for his father's football team, the St. James Cobras. His Monday Night Football gang were some of his closest friends. His passion became obvious to everyone when his health deteriorated to the point of having to lose a leg, and he became very depressed over the fact that he was going to lose his "Fighting Irish" tattoo along with it. His sister Cori mentioned that he could customize his new leg with any design he wanted and his great joy was having it made into a "Blue Bombers" leg. This would have been his 40th season for having Blue Bomber tickets and was proud that no one had ever sat in his seat in the old stadium since he got it the year that it was built. Some of his best memories were tied up with the team and attending Grey Cups with his family. Bill loved music and enjoyed going to many concerts throughout the years. He stood out overnight back in the day to get Billy Joel concert tickets. But nothing compared to his love for the music group, Queen. His parents introduced him to the group at his 14th birthday and it was a lifelong affair. Bill spent a lot of time the past few years in the hospital and wanted to make certain that the staff on the 5th floor at the Grace Hospital knew how much he appreciated them for making his stays as comfortable as possible. The family would also like to extend our appreciation to his home care aid, Marifel for being more than just an aide to Bill. The family will have a private viewing with interment following at a later date. A Celebration of his Life will occur at his home away from home, The Silver Heights Restaurant (2169 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg) on April 21, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined but donations may be made to the Dream Factory or a charity of your choice. I met the entire Mark family when I was 16 and started playing football with the St. James Cobras....and it's with a heavy heart that I type this. I have a picture that Cori sent me years ago of myself and Bill standing on the field in full gear ready to go. Rest in Peace Bill, we will miss you. - Posted by: Dean Yakimenko (Friend) on: May 12, 2015

I met Bill when my family moved into the Crestview area on Gerrond Bay back in 1970, July 1st, to be exact. I was 9 years old. Bill or at that young age, Billy. He introduced himself the day we moved in & we were friends ever since. Bill would usually be the one that rounded up all the kids on our bay to play a good game of road hockey & not only the kids on our bay, but from surrounding bays as well. We would carry our hockey nets from bay to bay just to keep a neighbourhood game of street hockey going & to meet new friends. Bill was an incredible friend magnet. Once you met Bill, you never forgot him. There were times that we lost contact, but when we reconnected, it was like our conversation never skipped a beat. Our parents had travel trailers that were parked in our driveways. When we were in our early teens we had sleep overs in these trailers, where we would indulge in junk food that our parents would never approve of. When Bill stayed in our trailer he also walked down our street, juggling an armful of vinyl records & a portable record player. Bill's family, was my second family. If I did something wrong, I'd get a talking to from my mom & Mrs. Mark! There are too numerous stories to tell, but one constant that was always there was that Bill was a true friend. He was always there for his friends & he usually tried to see the good in a person, when others didn't. I will miss you my dear friend & brother. I will cherish the memories of our youth. Thank you for introducing yourself to me some forty five years ago & being part of my life. Until we meet again brother...I love you. - Posted by: Brad Oliver ((Friend & Adopted Brother)) on: Apr 20, 2015

Got to know young Bill and his Dad when I was refereeing amateur football....always had a good time working with them because of their dedication to the game and the knowledge they brought with them....used to run into Bill when I'd be out running on the roads in Crestview or in the Mac's on Ness and Moray....always left with a great memory of spending a few minutes with a genuine good old boy who was always happy to share a story.....thanks for the good memories Bill..... - Posted by: Mike Ewatski (fellow official MFOA and friend ) on: Apr 20, 2015

This news brings me great Sadness. Billy was a great teammate and friend of mine during my St. James Cobras Football days. I got to know Billy and the entire Mark family very well during those years. They are all wonderful people. The Mark family were like family to me and Coach Bill Mark (Senior) was my second Father. Billy was a great gentle soul. As one of our best linemen I always thought of him as a gentle Giant. As a running back I depended on Billy as an offensive lineman to block for me. He never let me down. He was a great Football Player, a great teammate but even a better friend and human being! Billy you will be missed my friend. My Cobra playing days were the greatest memories of my teen years and you were a big part of those memories. We lost both you and your Father far too early. You were outstanding my Friend. Till we meet again. Clyde - Posted by: Clyde Raven (St. James Cobras Proud Teammate and Friend) on: Apr 19, 2015

Bill, Cori and Bob were great officials for Pop Warner Football and when they officiated a game a person never had to worry. All three were always there for the league and contributed to the success of the old Pop Warner League. Thanks Bill, have not seen you in awhile but you will be missed. - Posted by: Jack Robson (friend) on: Apr 19, 2015

I first met Bill in Grade 10 as we were trying out for the freshmen boys basketball team. All through school we were teammates in basketball, rugby, and finally football after he convinced me to come and join the Cobras. We would run into each other at periodically over the last few decades and it was always good for a quick 'remember when' and a big laugh. I'm sorry we won't have that opportunity any more with him, but I hope to have a few on Tuesday night (remember whens & pint hoists). - Posted by: Jim Beatty (Friend and Teammate) on: Apr 18, 2015
