LAWRENCE (LARRY) LEONARD PATEY - Forever Young - It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lawrence Leonard Patey on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Larry was born in Badger, Newfoundland and was the seventh child in a family of fifteen children. He is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years Naomi, sons Larry Jr. (Charlotte), Monte (Debbie), Chad and Brad; grandchildren, Kristal, Ryan and Korey. Larry joined the 3rd RCHA Military at an early age of 17 where he developed his love of photography in his role as a public relations officer while stationed in Gagetown, NB, Germany and a final posting in Winnipeg with his first wife Carol and two sons. Upon his retirement from the Forces Larry remained in Winnipeg where he met and married Naomi raising their two sons continuing his love of photography working in the field of cameras, sales and freelance photography. Larry loved spending time with his wife, his four boy's, watching their sporting events, fishing, hockey, football, playing guitar, country music, telling stories, eating dessert and spending time with his family, friends and neighbors in Winnipeg, Australia, the family cottage at Twin Lakes, and his brother and sisters families in Newfoundland. Larry will always be remembered for having an abundance of energy, pressed and polished appearance "God forbid a hair be out of place"! He loved a good joke or prank and loved to tell any and all of the daily weather forecast and watching a good thunderstorm over the lake. Larry was very practical, down to earth by nature, friendly and kind to everyone, simply he was one of the nicest men you ever met. He will be sadly missed as a loving husband, caring father, favorite uncle, grandpa, brother, brother-in-law, neighbor and friend. The family wishes to thank the staff at West Park Manor who cared so thoughtfully for Larry. Cremation has taken place and a family graveside service will be held in Badger, Newfoundland at a later date. Donations can be made in Larry's honor to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 9Z9 to support Alzheimer Research. • Larry, dad, you were a wonderful man who was full of life and passion. You always had a smile on your face and a joke to tell which will be missed. The days at the lake sitting and talking at the boat house are the memories I will always cherish along with the smiles and talks on Christmas Eve in front of the fireplace. You will always be in my heart and one day we will meet again. - Posted by: Teri Patey () on: Jul 01, 2015

  • To all of Larry's family and friends, peace be with you now that he has passed. It was an honour and privilege to know Larry. Always a joy to be around and he always left things better than he found them. He liked things neat, clean and organized. Loved a great cup of coffee and nothing could turn his head like fresh baked dessert. Larry, you made my best friend Naomi very happy and you were the love of her life. You had 4 beautiful boys and enjoyed a good life. God wrap you in his arms until we meet again my friend. You will be much remembered and loved. Love Always Kim (Detlef and family Lexy and Scarlette). - Posted by: Kim Dorn (Friend of family) on: Apr 29, 2015

  • To Naomi, Chad & Brad, We were so sorry to hear of Larry's passing but realize it was a long illness. We knew Larry through the Sir John Franklin Community Centre and hockey as Keith & Chad were on a lot of the same teams over the years. Larry loved hockey and watching his sons play. I don't think he missed any of the games. He was very friendly and loved to talk! He also volunteered at the SJFCC and we enjoyed the fireworks too at the Annual Winter Carnival/Hockey Tournament. We send our condolences and love to all of you. Take care. - Posted by: Linda, Chris & Keith Engel (friends) on: Apr 29, 2015

  • Larry was friends with my parents, I met Larry when I was in my teens. I have great memories of visiting at his house and going to the cottage in the summertime. Larry had a boat and would take us out on the lake for boat rides and tubing. I loved the firework shows he would have over the lake. He was a really nice guy and will truly be missed. - Posted by: Carla Hiepler (Friend of family) on: Apr 26, 2015
