Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLESLIE MAYTWAYASHING (MIKINAK ININII) It is with a deep and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Leslie Maytwayashing (Mikinak Ininii), our dearest and loving husband, dad and grandpa, to be with his Creator, Great Spirit. Leslie leaves to mourn his loving wife of 52 years, Elsie; daughters, Mary (Robert), Margaret (Marshall), Marilyn (Dean), Rosalind, Wanda (Vance) and Crystal; his grandchildren, Errol (Sunshine), Linelle, Liane (Robert), Bob (Whitney), Shanolyn (Kevin), Barret (Erin), Carla (JC), Kerri (Jamie), Brittany (Patrick), Kelsey (Wyatt), Shelby (Dominick); and his baby boy grandson Aaron; great-grandchildren, Autumn, Jaydin, Onieda, Kamryne, Riley, Rylynn, Daelyn, Kieran, Kylie, Tye, Jaxson, Bambi, Hailee, Tyler, Lelynd, Koda, Kaymen, Brodie, Morgan, Aiden and Hailey; sister Evelyn; brothers, Walter and Stanley (Gloria), along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Gaspard and Mary; sisters, Maryanne, Isabelle, Cecile and Jean; infant sister and brother Elzear; father-in-law Berba and mother-in-law Margaret. Leslie was born on January 24, 1941 in Eriksdale, MB. He passed away peacefully on April 21, 2015 with his family by his side, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He had unconditional love for his wife Elsie, daughters, sons-in-law, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, dad and grandparent. During Leslie's illness, he would reminisce about days gone by, and in his own words, said, "I had a good life". He will be missed for his love, strength, wisdom and storytelling. His memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He was well known for his strong and hard work ethic. He was not the type of man to sit idle. Because of these traits, Leslie became successful in many of his business ventures, such as, farming, fishing, trapping, school bus driver, scrap metal dealer to name a few, which enabled him to give back to the community. He was an inspiration to his family and friends. Leslie also loved the outdoors and sports, in particular, baseball, where he played the position of shortstop. Leslie continued with his passion to work and play up until cancer weakened him of his strength. He will be greatly missed. Wake services will be held at the residence of Elsie Maytwayashing at Lake Manitoba First Nation beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Lake Manitoba First Nation Band Hall with Father Michel Nault officiating. Service will conclude at the hall with cremation to follow. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Errol, Robert Jr., Barret, Kerri, Kelsey and close friend Rick Kaartinen. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sons-in-law and friends. The family would like to thank nurse Laurie Gudmundson, Lake Manitoba Chief and Council, the comfort provided by nurses, staff and Palliative Care of the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, your hospitality, efforts and assistance was greatly appreciated. Also thanks to Arnason Funeral Home. Many thanks to our friends from within and outside our community for the many visits to support Leslie and our family during this very difficult time. Grandpa, we miss you dearly. Almost 3 years have passed since you left us to the spirit world and the pain has yet to ease. We all miss you so much and do everything we can do ensure your memory lives on, and that we carry on the way you taught us to. I am blessed to have had you as my grandfather. I miss your hugs, your laugh, your smile, your stories, but I know you are at peace now and with your relatives. There are no words that can ever describe how important you were to our family and how instrumental you were to the work ethic that lives on in all of us! Your love was infectious and unconditional. Leslie was a man of conviction: well known for his strong work ethic; his genuine sense of community and a positive role model for all. Always enjoyed chatting with Leslie who greeted you with his infectious smile. He will be missed! His loss will be felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Uncle you were there for us through our childhood. We would come over to have sleep overs with the girls, Crystal and Wanda. You and aunty Elsie would always welcome us into your home when we would sneak and play on your farm. Mom would allow us to go visit. hank you for being our uncle. Sincere condolences to you, & your family. I remember you bringing your girls for hair cuts, to my mom's house in Eriksdale, when they were little. My mom & dad always remarked about what a nice family you were. My dad passed away 8 years ago, & my mom, who has Alzheimer's, is in care.
