EDNA RUTH TAVERNER-HODGES (nee BROWN) February 23, 1945 - April 13, 2015 On April 13, 2015, Edna R. Taverner-Hodges (nee Brown) passed away after a long decline at the Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg. Edna Ruth Brown came into the world accompanied by her twin brother David (predeceased in 1947) on February 23, 1945. She was the the only girl in the Brown family. Edna has joined her mother Rose Brown (nee Hrynchuk) and Stanley H. Brown in God's Grace. She is survived by her two big brothers, Dennis Brown and Herbert Brown; her two daughters, Tiffaney R. Taverner and Mrs. Shalomarr Dorey; and her only grannygirl Catrin Dorey. Edna had many nephews, nieces and cousins, some of which were with her in her last hours: Deborah Geisbrecht and her daughter Barbra Geisbrecht. The story of Edna's life is a long tale that is interwoven throughout various neighbourhoods in Winnipeg. She has touched many different lives through associations with gun dogs, foster parenting children with severe disabilities, volunteering for various community groups, but most of all she was a survivor. She had great spirit and would fight to defend her home, children and those she adopted as her own. It is her fighting spirit that kept her with us here for as long as she was. She has been in failing health and decline over the past decade. She was stubborn and tenacious but most of all, our mom. There will be a memorial held in her honour when the flowers of summer come. Family and friends who are interested in celebrating the life of Edna may contact her daughters or email peacelioness@hotmail.com to be added to a notification list. Special thank you to all of those who have been present during her last months. Cremation has taken place. Thank you to Nick at Eternal Grace Funeral Home.
