Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN (LIL) ROSALIND MURRAY (nee SMITH) January 12, 1923 - April 12, 2015 Peacefully, at Lions Personal Care Centre in Winnipeg, MB. Born and raised in Winnipeg's Elmwood Community, Lillian graduated from St. John's High School. Lillian married William "Bill" Charles Murray on August 4, 1944 and tended the home and family, raising three wonderful children, Richard Charles (partner Kim), William Douglas (wife Paulette) and Donna Lynne (Cellitti) (husband Pete), during their 45 years together. Lillian always found time to spend with friends and extended family and stayed connected to the things she loved. This included her fabulous piano playing, singing, bowling, playing bridge, teaching at Sunday School, her involvement in social clubs, as well as volunteer fundraising and support with the Purchettes, an affiliate to Bill's PMAC organization. Lillian was a loving and devoted partner to husband Bill and became his caregiver during his declining years. She was also a volunteer with the Alzheimer's Society and Children's Hospital. Lillian loved to learn and continued taking courses at the U. of W. well into her 70's. Lillian loved to spend quality time with her family, which included her three children; five grandchildren: Shawna (husband Kevin), Shelly (husband Brian) and Keith (wife Christie) of Vancouver, BC; Jarrod (wife Nicole) and Ryan (wife Robin) of Calgary, AB; five great-grandchildren: Will and Bennett of Vancouver, BC; Emmett, Heath and Hudson of Calgary, AB. Lillian, the Grandma, always had time to listen and spent countless hours with her grandchildren as a fun loving, playful mentor and caring person. She may be described as "a ray of sunshine and Mary Poppins all in one". Grandma could magically transform a tedious task into fun event for her grandchildren. Grandma gave love and was loved. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Bill; brothers, Joe, Rudy, Fred; and daughter-in-law Karen. She is survived by her sister Eleanor of Campbell, CA, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The Murray family members wish to thank Miriam, Shelly and all the staff at Lions Personal Care Centre for their wonderful care, cooperation and support in keeping our Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma comfortable, safe and secure during her stay. In lieu of flowers, please direct your donations in the name of Lillian R. Murray, to Alzheimer Society or Lions Personal Care Centre in Winnipeg.
