Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • To the family of Lillian Hakala Clavelle; I grew up 1/4 mile from the Hakala farm, I knew the family well. Lillian was older and was friends with my parents (Wilfred & Bessie Wilson). Lillian's two sisters (Elvi & Julia) were babysitters for us 3 kids. I as a kid used to play cards with Lillian's dad Matti, he made a big fuss if we would win (which he let us do). Lillian's parents and brother Sulo are buried very close to my parents & my brother. I cut the grass for them for years. My wife & I visited Elvi in Westbank, BC a few years back now. She & sister Sigrid are buried there. I have no idea where Julia is. Sorry we are late, but just came across the obit for Lillian tonight. Brings back pleasant memories. • Greetings from Halifax. I was sorry to hear of Auntie Lil's passing, but didn't she have a grand long life! I remember many wonderful celebrations at Adolph and Lil's house. They were always so welcoming! Auntie Lil always fed the crowds of relatives well while Uncle Adolph teased and got everyone laughing with his jokes. I treasure the memories of those family gatherings. I'm sorry not to be able to attend the funeral, but Vic and Jo-Ann, I'm praying for you and your family. Much Love, Mary rscj - Posted by: Mary Finlayson rscj (Niece, daughter of Irene (Clavelle) Finlayson) on: May 04, 2015

  • Thinking of you Vic and Jo-Ann as you say a final good bye to your mom. She was a wonderful Aunt , always happy to host family events, huge picnics in the summer and skating parties in the winter. I will continue to treasure memories of Auntie Lil as a strong, hard working woman who was generous with both her time and thoughtfulness. Our mothers shared a lovely friendship and closeness which I know meant a great deal to my mother Irene. • Now living in Montreal, I remember visiting my relatives in the West in the early 80s, accompanied by my mother and my father (Aunt Lillian's brother). We were greeted by Uncle Adolph and Aunt Lillian, and I still have memories of her smile and kindness to try communicating with my mother who's English is very limited. She could rest in peace now. I wish all my cousins and relatives my deepest condolences. You guys are far but here, but be sure that you are always welcome if you come to QC. - Posted by: Jacques Clavelle (Nephew) on: May 03, 2015

  • To the Clavelle family, our thoughts are with you at this time. Having spent many hours in the Clavelle home, I have many fond and funny memories, I will never forget, Lil (who I often called my 2nd Mom) tried endlessly to get me to drink fresh carrot juice! - Posted by: Pat MacDonald (Family friend) on: May 02, 2015
