MADELEINE MCMEEL (nee MOREAU) Peacefully at home, Madeleine passed away on the morning of April 29, 2015 with Hugh and Hermie by her side. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Hugh, children Kevin (Daniel, Genevieve), Mary and Bruno Grawitz (Ines, Paul, Alexis), Yvonne McMeel and Rob Chartrand (Adam, Madeleine), Michelle McMeel and Franck Besseat (Naomi, Kevin), sister-in-law Mary Moreau and, numerous relatives in Ireland, lifelong friends, and personal caregivers Hermie Teluz and Jenneth Sapida. Madeleine was predeceased by her parents Alexandre and Anna Moreau, brothers and sister-in-law Joseph and Andre (and Aline), sisters and brothers-in-law Therese (and Peter) Vedel and Marielle (and Alphonse) Paquin. Madeleine's journey in life was exceptional with a commitment to family, friends, faith and service to community as her guiding pillars. Madeleine and Hugh's devotion to each other of 58 years has served as a testimony of love and faith for their family and everyone they have met over the years. They shined most whenever surrounded by family, in particular when their grandchildren were at their side. As their family grew and moved to different parts of the world, they loved the opportunity to visit them and kept them close in their daily thoughts and prayers. Madeleine's commitment in service to others was endless. Over the years she volunteered tirelessly whether it be teaching crafts at the Kiwanis Centre for the Deaf, reading with children in school, activities at both Holy Cross and St. Timothy's parishes, or donating knitted children's mittens, toques and scarves that she crafted over the years on long drive family camping trips and in recent years each night while watching the late news. She was particularly committed to the South Side Quilters that she hosted for years. Every Wednesday she welcomed her dear friends and together they would hand-quilt the most wonderful creations that eventually would be donated to various organizations in the city whose mandate was to serve those in need. While the quilting was never rushed, it was the tea and conversations that they really looked forward to: no topic was taboo and they solved most of the problems in the world. She is missed, yet those who know her will forever be blessed with memories that will not fade. Her family will forever be comforted by her love and kept warm in the sweaters, socks and quilts that she lovingly made for everyone. The smell of freshly baked blueberry pies and chocolate chip cookies is what memories are made of. As life changed over the past years her gratitude to those who surrounded her and cared for her were not said in words, but in the most wonderful smile and sparkle in her eye. The family simply cannot express their heartfelt gratitude for her angels and devoted care givers, Hermie and Jenneth: "You are both a part of our family". Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 6th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy's Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road in Winnipeg. Refreshments will follow in the parish hall with interment to follow. Green Acres Funeral Home in care of arrangements, #1 Highway East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, MB R2C 2Z3 (204) 222-3241. In lieu of flowers, the family requests the donations be made in Madeline's name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
