JACOB DIEDRICH KRAHN Born in Ebendfeld, Paraguay, July 25, 1944, grew up in Friedensfeld, Paraguay. Jacob was the fifth of 12 children born to Diedrich and Anna Krahn. He came to Canada in 1964, a year after his parents immigrated. Jacob worked as an Autobody technician until about 10 years ago when his failing eyesight caused him to take an early retirement to his cottage home at Hillside Beach with his wife Barbara Eileen. Jacob had three children, Edgar, Nancy (Jeff) and Dominique (Donna), and two stepsons, Jeffrey (Nicole) and Dean (Jacqueline), seven grandchildren came from his blended family, Jaymi, Taylor, Karilyn, Jesse (Nita), Dustin (Amanda), Matthew and Savannah, as well as a treasured great-grandson Loukas. His family was his life and loved them all so deeply. Jacob left this earth as unpretentious as he lived his life quietly and without any fuss or bother to anyone on May 5, 2015, with his wife of almost 22 years, Barbara Eileen, by his side. Always a very considerate and thoughtful man. He was predeceased by his infant brother Diedrich, his stepson Jeffrey, his mother Anna and father Diedrich. He is survived by four sisters, Susan, Mary, Nettie and Erna; and six brothers, William, Peter, Ben, Victor, Erwin and Harry, his aforementioned children and grandchildren and great-grandson, as well as loving wife Barbara Eileen. Jacob's celebration of life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, May 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., with viewing just preceding the service. Lunch to follow with the family. Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Jake was my friend. We worked together helping to build Wayside Gospel Chapel's new building and became very close during those four and a half years. He was a great listener and had a wry sense of humour that I came to appreciate. After the church was completed, we got together once or twice a week for coffee and to talk or not talk, just to enjoy one another's company. He was a servant of the Lord and a good friend. We will meet again but until then I will miss him. - Posted by: Bill Main (Friend) on: May 22, 2015

  • This makes me think about the trip thru south Dakota! There were two People... friendly, warmhearted, helpful! It was an awesome Time to get to know Jacob and Barbara. I will never forget the funny moments we´ve had, the talks we´ve had. Since 2007 we hold the contact to each other. I feel a Connection since we met. My biggest wish would be to see you again. - Posted by: Janina Thies (Zellmer) (friend in germany) on: May 21, 2015

  • Jacob was such a kind and easy going guy. Always wanting to help others. When Barbara & Jacob would come to visit me in Rapid City, Jacob went above and beyond helping me with projects around the house and yard that I just couldn't do myself. Last year it was his goal to save and straighten a huge Evergreen tree that had been bent in half by a severe winter storm. Jacob tethered that tree with ropes and a winch. Every day he went out and slowly adjusted it until it was standing straight again. I really didn't know if the tree would make it but it did and is still standing tall...to me it will always be "Jacob's Tree" and I think of what a wonderful man he was every time I look at the tree that others would have just cut down. Jacob will be truly missed by all that knew him, my heartfelt condolences to my cousin Barbara and Jacob's family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Caroline Skromeda (Barbara cousin) on: May 14, 2015

  • Hi Barbara I'm not sure if you remember me but I used to drive Jake back and forth to work at Winters Autobody. I used to operate a bus service out of Pineridge Trailer Park. I remember Jake well. Always a very happy delightful man. My sincere condolences on his passing. May he soar among the Angels. God bless. RIP Jake my old friend. Until we meet again. - Posted by: Avalon Beck (friend) on: May 09, 2015

  • We had our best times Fly-in fishing at Frenchmens Lake. Even though you had much respect for the water, you were right there in the boat fishing with the rest of us. - Posted by: John Krahn (brother-in-law) on: May 09, 2015
