JOY MARIE JOHNSTONE (nee PATTERSON) January 5, 1932 May 5, 2015 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joy Marie Johnstone. Joy is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline; granddaughter, Chantelle; daughter-in-law, Judy; sister, Carol of Calgary, AB; brother, Raymond (Dorothy) of Vernon, BC and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Brian Johnstone; parents, Rolla Patterson and Zella Haidenger; sisters, Joyce (in infancy), Eileen (Wayne) McAtee, Myrna Patterson and Vera (Russell) Day (nee Rowe). The second of six children born in Melfort, SK, Joy spent her childhood on the family farm near Pleasantdale, SK until her family moved into town when she was a teenager. As a young woman, Joy lived and worked in Saskatoon, SK before moving to Thunder Bay, ON where she married and Brian was born. Next came a move to Kenora, ON where they expanded their family with the addition of Jacquie. Joy worked for the federal government enjoying a career that spanned over 25 years. It began in Kenora with the Unemployment Insurance office followed by the Department of Indian Affairs. Joy then moved on to Parks Canada in Winnipeg and at Riding Mountain National Park. Her years at RMNP were some of her fondest as she enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and camaraderie of her friends. Her last position was with Revenue Canada: Excise in Calgary from 1981 until her retirement. Upon her retirement, Joy returned to Winnipeg to be with her family. She was very close to her children and grandchild and enjoyed spending time with them. Joy was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time in the nearby park reading her books and chatting with neighbours. The family wishes to thank the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, Winnipeg Police Department and Susan Hamilton of the Chief Medical Examiner's Office for their assistance and compassion. In accordance with the family's wishes, cremation will be taking place and no memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to Autism Society of Manitoba or CancerCare would be greatly appreciated. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
