ARTHUR COLEMAN DOWN Arthur Coleman Down passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Tuxedo Villa. Art is survived by his loving wife Jean, son Murray, daughter Sharon Wolchuk (Brian), sister-in-law Shirley Duckworth and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents William and Maude, sister Orlah Mason, brothers-in- law Russell Craik and Donald Craik. Art was born in Holland, Manitoba on May 19, 1928. He had many fond memories of working on the family farm with his Dad. He remained on the farm until moving to Winnipeg to join Jean whom he married in June 1951. Art and Jean were the proprietors of Down's Pharmacy for the first several years of their marriage. After they sold the store, Art went on to work as a technician in the Soil Sciences Department at the University of Manitoba. Art loved to work in his workshop. He could always be counted on to tend to anything that needed fixing and to quietly solve many problems. Sincere thanks to the staff of Tuxedo Villa for the care they gave to Art / Dad during the last four years. A private family celebration of Art's life will take place at a later date. Donations if desired may be made to Fort Whyte Alive, 1961 McCreary Road, Winnipeg, R3P 2K9. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I am sorry to hear of Art's passing. Murray and I worked together at Canadian Tire for a number of years in the 1970s and that is how I got to know his parents. Later in life when I became a Realtor, they listed their house with me on King's Drive. Art gave me a big floor fan that they used in their pharmacy years ago and I still use it today in my gazebo for those hot summer days. Every time I look at that fan I think of Art and Jean. A wonderful man. My condolences to the family. Cliff King - Posted by: Cliff King (friend) on: May 11, 2015

  • Dear Sharon, It is hard to lose a parent, even when you know it was his time. Keep the precious memories close. They will comfort you as you learn to live without your father. Our thoughts are with you, Murray and your Mother. Take care. - Posted by: Judy Rea (College Roommate) on: May 11, 2015
