ERNEST L. SAMPSON October 30, 1938 - May 7, 2015 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ernest L. Sampson. Sadly, but peacefully, at Pinawa Hospital, Ernie lost his battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Eino and Margaret Sampson (nee Larson), brother Arvid and sister Evelyne. He is survived by his sister Arlene Wasney (Gary); his sons Darren, Troy and Clinton; grandchildren Brennan (Darren and Alice), Krista, Dustin (Haley) and Jordon (Clinton and Tina). Ernie was born in Pine Falls and grew up in Lac du Bonnet. He attended Newcombe School not far from the Sampson homestead. In 1962, he married Shirley Tyrrell and they had three children and eventually settled down by the Winnipeg River on Provincial Road 502. They divorced in 1983 at which time Ernie moved to his final home, "The Rock", on the east side of the Winnipeg River not far from his original homestead. Ernie worked as a heavy equipment operator around Manitoba and the Lac du Bonnet region until his retirement. The family would like to thank the staff of Pinawa Hospital for all their care and support through this difficult time. I will always hold sweet memories of this dear man in my heart. His kindness and smile will never be forgotten. Ernie was the best friend a person could ever dream of having in their life. I lived on “The Rock” with Ernie, when I was in my late teens. He gave me a room, while I (briefly) worked with MB forestry and at Casey’s. He threw the best parties, after yelling “party at The Rock” before leaving Casey’s. Everyone had fun on his Rock. He came all the way out one summer, with a friend who was driving on further and brought him to my new family home in Kamloops; he picked Ernie up to bring him home about a week later. It was far too soon for me. We very much enjoyed each-other’s company and he always had interesting stories to tell, and the laughs were never-ending. He loved a good song and never hesitated to sing and break out in that distinctive dance that I haven’t seen since. I joined in every time. He always spoke very fondly of his boys. When he passed, I was living (and still do) in BC. I think about him often, and still have his phone number memorized in my head. I sure miss him. Heaven is lucky to have him. - Posted by: Kristine Horn (Friend) on: Jun 17, 2025
