Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN WINNIFRED PEEVER (nee BANNISTER) September 23, 1918 - May 8, 2015 Helen Peever, in her 97th year, passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital surrounded by her family. Helen is survived by her daughters Diane Anderson (Len), Linda Beer (Walter), Lorie Welk (Kerry) and son Brian Peever (Linda) and her son-in-law, Ralph Carter. In addition, she is survived by her 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Helen will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Victor in 1989, and her daughter Nancy Carter in January, 2014. Helen was the youngest daughter of Tom and Nellie Bannister and, along with her sister Eva, was raised in Fort Rouge. She lived all her life in the same general area of Fort Rouge, marrying Vic in 1940 and raising her five children. Her family was the most important part of her life and she maintained close contact with everyone and enjoyed seeing the new babies and watching the grandchildren/great-grandchildren growing up. Always a caregiver, at one point in her early married years, she had both her elderly parents living in the Peever home, in addition to three of the five children that had been born at that time. Later, as her children married and grandchildren arrived, Helen would host Sunday supper where all the family would gather with all the cousins, creating memories of being together that all fondly remember to this day. She was extremely energetic throughout her entire 96 years and never experienced any loss of her mental skills or her endearing sense of humor. She enjoyed completing the Jumble in the Winnipeg Free Press right up until late October when her health deteriorated. In earlier years, Helen was a regular at community bingo events and in later years she thoroughly enjoyed her trips to the casino with her friends or daughters. For the last several years, Helen lived in Shalom Gardens where some old friends and several new friends also resided. In particular, she very much appreciated the friendship of Margaret Phillips whose company she enjoyed on their many outings. The family would like to thank the Home Care Staff with the WRHA who made it possible for Helen to remain in her home for the past several years. Sincere thanks also to the Staff at Oakview Place and at the Grace Hospital for her care over the last few months. Cremation has taken place and, in keeping with Helen's wishes, a private family service will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
