ALINE EMMA DUVAL
Born: Dec 16, 1921
Date of Passing: May 06, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALINE EMMA DUVAL (nee BARIL) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing, on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Actionmarguerite - Foyer Valade, of our dearly beloved mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, Aline Emma Duval, at 93 years of age. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Baril and Anna Gendreau, as well as by her husband, Gérard Henri Duval, her sister, Lucille Okrainec and brothers, Joseph, Denis, Roméo, and Roger Baril. She leaves to mourn her one brother, Thomas Baril (Michele), her three children, Léa (Robert Bétournay), Thérèse, Gérald Duval and one granddaughter, Chantal Bétournay, as well as her sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Aline was born on December 16, 1921 in Ponteix, SK. She grew up in St. Boniface, attending St. Joseph's Academy. She began teaching Grades 1 to 9 in one-room rural schoolhouses, and later at the elementary schools in St. Joseph and St. Jean-Baptiste and at Provencher School in St. Boniface. While teaching full-time and raising a family, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree which she obtained in 1972. After her retirement, Aline and Gérard spent many years traveling throughout Canada and the United States. They both enjoyed cottage life in the Whiteshell Provincial Park for many summers. Their trip to Disney World with their granddaughter was memorable and joyful, as were Aline's snow-bird vacations in Florida with Gérard, and later with Thérèse. She particularly enjoyed her trip to Honolulu with Gérald and Thérèse. In 1991, her husband suffered a paralyzing stroke. For the next 10 years, Aline cared for him in their home, with the assistance of home care, until his death on March 27, 2001. She campaigned against government plans to privatize home care, including delivering a speech on the steps of the Manitoba Legislature. Consistent with her belief in the sanctity of human life, she supported the League for Life by stuffing envelopes in the office and walking picket lines. She raised funds for Breast Cancer Research through sponsorships by completing a six kilometer walk at the age of 64 years. Aline was an intelligent, well-educated, witty, fun-loving, yet strong woman who made friends from all walks of life, during her career and thereafter. One of her greatest gifts to her granddaughter was literacy. Her teachings and the example she set during her lifetime will remain in the hearts of all those she taught and touched. Her family wishes to express their thanks to the caring, patient and devoted doctors, nurses and assistants of Actionmarguerite - Taché Centre and Foyer Valade who cared for Aline during her later years. Their compassion and their expressions of respect and love for Aline in her last days brought much consolation to her family. A service will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street, on Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Life's Vision, Unit A-388 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0C8 or to Jocelyn House Hospice, 177 Egerton Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 2W7. - Posted by: Raymonde (Lavallée) Dupuis () on: May 20, 2015
