Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA JEAN DUVAL (HALL) 1927 - 2015 Peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 Barbara Jean DuVal (née Hall) died at Grace Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Paul N. DuVal and sister Dorothy Robertson. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Margaret McKay, as well as her children, Paul, Douglas (Monique), Gordon (Lynn Weiss), James, Bruce (Carolyn) and Margot Bissonnette (Marc). She leaves also grandchildren Mihaela, Zoë, and Adriana DuVal; Marc (Sylvie), Stephan, Justin (Jacquie), and Michèle DuVal; Michael and Claire DuVal; and Denis and Sophie Bissonnette. Barbara was born in Winnipeg on January 22, 1927 to Norman and Ruby Hall. She attended Laura Secord Elementary and Gordon Bell High School before entering the Faculty of Home Economics at the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1948. In University, she was active in the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She interned as a dietician at Vancouver General Hospital and later worked at the Montreal General Hospital. On September 5, 1950 she married Paul N. DuVal with whom she shared 50 years of marriage until his death in 2001. In her youth, she spent summers at the Hall family cottage in Ponemah, Manitoba on the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Later came many years of idyllic summers centered at a rustic lakeside cabin at Farlane, Ontario accessible only by rail, where many precious family memories were generated. While raising six children she remained very active in the Winnipeg community, volunteering with the Junior League and the United Church Women. Barbara had a vibrant social life and was known for her dinner parties and love of bridge. Barbara and Paul were members of the Sabbath Sipping Society, a group of close friends who met regularly to socialize and discuss current affairs. She was a loving and devoted mother with an enduring influence in the lives of her children. She was remarkable for the manner in which she related to all of her children's friends, engaging them in adult conversation and establishing personal connections. She was very creative as a member of a quilting group and donated her handiwork to a variety of charitable causes. The family would like to thank the staff of the Portsmouth Retirement Residence and the Manitoba Home Care Program for years of care and service, and the staff of Grace Hospital. We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all the DuVal family. Your mother and father were such good friends throughout the years with my parents and we remember many happy times with them and all of you at Farlane. Both touched so many and we feel blessed to have shared in their lives. - Posted by: The Mielke Family, (Gary & Ruth) (Farlane Family) on: May 20, 2015

Raising six children is a remarkable feat. Acknowledging and nuturing the many friends of six children is beyond remarkable. I had the very good fortune to be one of those friends and have many fine memories of Barbara's hospitality (and patience). The family house on Middlegate was always a buzz of activity. Times at the Farlane cottage were and continue to be sublime. Paul and Babara's generosity certainly enriched my life. - Posted by: Patrick Falconer (Friend of her son) on: May 17, 2015

So sorry to read about your mom. She was a lovely and gracious lady and I always enjoyed talking with her at the Pi Phi functions. - Posted by: Margaret Semple (sister in Pi Beta Phi) on: May 16, 2015
