Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRENEE DUFORT 1920 - 2015 On Sunday, July 27, 2014, our father, Maurice Dufort, left our mother, Renée, in the care of their children while he went to prepare a home for her in heaven. Peacefully, on Sunday, May 17, 2015, with family by her side, Renée Dufort passed away in her 95th year. Mom is once again under our father's care. Renée was also predeceased by her parents, Norbert and Lucia Lemire, her sister, Lucienne Landry, her brothers, Josephat and Jean-Paul Lemire and her grandson, Brock Dufort. Left to cherish her memory; her son, Gilles Dufort, grandson Jeff Dufort and great-grandchildren Tanner, Hilary and Noah Dufort and granddaughter, Danielle Kirton (Chris) and great-grandson, Andrew Kirton; her daughter, Lorraine Restall (Frank), grandchildren Christian Boone (Diana), Adam Boone (Tanja) and great-granddaughter, Mayzie Boone; her daughter Jacqueline Whitehill (David), granddaughters, Kellie Whitehill (Matthew Robinson), Shannon Bergen (Jerry) and great-granddaughter, Kenzie Bergen, and Kirsten Mangin (Joel), and great-grandson, Maxime Mangin; her daughter, Joanne Renaud (Kerry), grandsons Matthew Renaud (Dayna Steinfeld) and Taylor Renaud; and her son Claude Dufort (Donna), grandchildren, Dylan Dufort (Brittany Odger), and great-grandson, Jude Dufort, Kyle Dufort, granddaughter-in-law, Ashley Konowalchuk great-grandson Domenik Dufort and great-granddaughter Amelia Dufort, and granddaughter, Rhéa Dufort. In addition, Renée is survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews who were all very special to her. Renée was born in Létellier, Manitoba on July 19, 1920. She was raised in the parish of St. Norbert. The hardships of the depression necessitated that she and her brother Josephat live for a period of two years with their grandparents in St. Boniface. Thus, her formal education occurred in St. Boniface and St. Norbert until her high school graduation in the late 1930s. Subsequent to her education Mom worked as a dental receptionist until 1943. On February 24, 1943, Renée and her sweetheart Maurice were married at the St. Norbert Church. On February 24, 2014, Renée and Maurice joyously celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary amongst family and friends. Following the war, with Renée and Maurice embarking on their new lives together, Renée established their first family home in Fort Garry. She would have the opportunity to create many more family homes in Norwood, St. Boniface, South St. Vital and even as far away as Baie Comeau, Québec. For her entire life Renée prided herself as a successful homemaker and head of the family. These two positions, she would excel at for the next 70 years. Mom was a very social person who enjoyed the company of family and friends as well as meeting new people. Mom and Dad always hosted family gatherings which witnessed larger numbers of people attending as grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived. Her homemaking skills were never better displayed than the home being spotlessly cleaned the morning following a gathering, before anyone else awakened. In her later years Mom enjoyed family gatherings at the homes of her children but could never be stopped from ensuring the dishes were washed and the house tidied before she left. Mom possessed an exquisite fashion sense. She always appeared on the cutting edge of fashion yet would humbly downplay the many compliments she would receive regarding her personal style. Mom's style was uniquely her own and for over 70 years, try as he might, Dad was never able to purchase an article of clothing for Mom which she didn't return. Dad's record of futility in this regard became a source of family humour which transcended the generations. Mom enjoyed travelling. Her travels included trips down East or out West, to visit family or to more exotic locals such as Hawaii, Phoenix, the Eastern Sea Board or the special "girls" trip to Cuba at the young age of 85 years. A favourite social pastime of Mom's was dancing. She especially relished the opportunity to dance with her children and grandchildren. The family is confident that since Maurice's passing ten months ago he has been taking dance lessons and in the early morning of Sunday, May 17, Dad came by and whisked Mom away and they are now dancing together amongst the stars. The family would like to recognize the personal friendship of Eleanor Medway and thank her for her many years of love, support and compassion. On t'aime maman. Tu nous manques. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Renée's memory, to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 22 at St. Bernadette Parish Church, 820 Cottonwood Road. A private family interment will be held at a later date. We pass our condolences onto the Dufort family. Mrs Dufort attended all of the company bar-b-ques, Christmas parties, retirement parties and special functions at Dufort Industries. She greeted and acknowledged all staff whether they were a new employee or a long time staff member. These greetings were done in a warm motherly fashion as many of the staff considered Mr. Dufort as their "Canadian father." In later years, Mrs. Dufort's sight was fading, and she would sometimes ask Mr. Dufort who she was talking to and upon learning the name of the person she would continue the conversation they had from the last time they visited. The Dufort family will be in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Dufort Industries Staff () on: May 22, 2015

I have had the honour & privilege of knowing Renee for 50 years. She was my Mother-in-Law & also friend. She was kind, thoughtful and completely devoted to her family. Her 70+marriage to Maurice set an example to everyone, they were completely devoted to each other and it was always a pleasure to be with them. Her sense of style for herself & her home were always impeccable. She had very high standards for the cleanliness of her home and there are many funny stories that happened over the years. I remember one in particular when one of her daughters was going on a date and the young man walked in the door right across her spotless gold carpet with big muddy feet. She just sat there and smiled graciously until he left and if course jumped up to clean. She will certainly be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her over the years. - Posted by: Audrey Roche (Friend) on: May 21, 2015

On behalf of my family I would like to express my sincerest condolences to the entire family of Aunt Renee and of course Uncle Maurice. They made a great team and over the years I have reflected many times on the gracious and generous hospitality and spirit that they both shared. My fondest memory of aunt Renee when as an 18 year old I travelled from Vancouver to Winnipeg and we stayed at the ever busy Dufort home. My buddy and I were overwhelmed by the welcoming feeling that Aunty Renee provided us and we laughed how we barely vacated the bathroom and there was already clean towels hung. She was a great lady. I know my Dad Jean-Paul, Uncle Joe, and Aunty Lucienne will have a great reunion and will be celebrating with Emile and Maurice. The beer will be ice cold.... - Posted by: Roger Lemire (Nephew) on: May 20, 2015

My sympathies to the Dufort and Lemire families. My late parents(Beatrice Champagne and Adrien Girouard) both went to school with Renée and Maurice in the 1920s and '30s. - Posted by: Richard Girouard (Distant cousin) on: May 20, 2015
