ROBERT FENWICK KNICKLE December 7, 1931 - May 25, 2015 With saddened hearts we announce the death of our loving grandpa, husband, and father, Robert Knickle. He retired to his heavenly home on May 25th, 2015, after fighting a courageous battle with multiple and complex illnesses at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. In 2010 Robert and Elizabeth Knickle migrated from Hebb's Cross, Nova Scotia to Stonewall, Manitoba to be closer to family in their later years. They were married for 57 years, and had the joy of raising five amazing children. These children multiplied and produced eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Dad was a humble, compassionate and gentle soul, devoted to his family and his God. His example of integrity was the trademark of his life. Having grown up in Nova Scotia, Dad deeply loved the sea, and although he resettled several times out West, his heart was always anchored in the beaches and ocean of the East Coast. Dad began his career with the R.C.M.P. in 1953, and retired in 1977 as Staff Sergeant in Selkirk, Manitoba. Although he excelled at his vocation, his occupation did not define him. Dad was much more than that. One of the gifts that he left to his children was his love of music, all genres. He had a beautiful singing voice and often sung with groups, choirs, and did solos. He also had an artistic bent, and could draw and paint. His daughter Chris, and several of the grandchildren have been blessed with his gift. After his retirement in 1977 he had various jobs, as a guard with the Royal Canadian Mint, the Coast Guard, and also owner/operator of several driving schools. You could never have had a more patient or qualified instructor. Even while working at a demanding job Dad made it a priority to volunteer his time for the church. He was a natural for a boy's Brigade leader, soloist, Board chair, and adult Sunday School teacher. His good character is his legacy. He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth, his son Bob (Jacquie), daughters Christine (Mel), Julie (Rick), Cathy (Lou), and Marianne (Sakura). His grandchildren include Rebecca, Paige, Melissa, Nicola, Shaelah, Adrian, Cassie and Amanda. Dad was predeceased by his brothers, Keith and Donnie, sister Joan and parents Fenwick Alonzo Knickle and Ethel Hope (nee Manthorne). His younger sister Margie, the remaining survivor of the Knickle family still resides in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and will miss her big brother "Bobby." Funeral services will take place at New Life Church in Stonewall, MB on Saturday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will take place at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Kidney Foundation of Manitoba.
