LINDA GAIL OLSON
Date of Passing: May 31, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLINDA GAIL OLSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beautiful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister after a courageous battle with cancer on May 31, 2015. Mom has been called upon by the heavens above and the angels have carried her off to be cared for by Lord above. Mom was 68 when she passed and was born to the late Gordon and Evelyn Hare. She was the eldest of four children. She was born and raised in Winnipeg as a child. In the early 1950s the family moved to Moosehorn where her father worked at the local creamery. In the late 1950s they moved again to Steep Rock where she met the love of her life, married, settled down and raised a family of two children. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Larry, of 50 years; son Patrick (Katie); daughter Penny (Kelvin Hopgood); grandchildren Steven, Brandon, Hayley, Lukas and two brothers Fred and Jack, along with many nieces, nephews and relatives. She was predeceased by her mother in 1968, her father in 1982, her brother Bobby in 1992, and her sister-in-law Darlene in March of this year. Mom was a hard worker. She never quit. If she wasn't painting for someone, she was doing home care or physiotherapy for stroke victims in the area. She was a true gem to her community as she volunteered countless hours with the Steep Rock Community Club and, for her efforts, she was presented with a Volunteerism award in 2014. Her and Dad had several hobbies and even managed to run a honey business for several years in the 1980s. Mother loved skidooing, boating (when calm) and visiting with all her friends and family. She also liked to travel as her and Dad spent a number of winters in Texas. She was an outstanding, accomplished cook who even made it into several hunting and outfitting camps providing the best in table fare. This woman had an outstanding wit about her and never held much back, telling it like it was and how she felt. She loved to joke and reminisce. She will surely be missed by her family and so many others, yet we know she is in a better place looking down upon us smiling and knowing we will all meet one day. We cannot forget those lips covered in red lipstick shining from ear to ear and the wonderful, crazy and loving things that came bolstering out. Mother has chosen to be cremated and a memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Faulkner Community Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment to be held in the Faulkner Cemetery with a lunch to follow in the hall. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Emadi and all the staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, as well as Dr. Myers and staff from the Health Sciences Centre and Manitoba CancerCare. Finally, we must thank all those who came by to visit, those who helped lift the load along the way and providing those hearty meals. You all made an incredible difference in this hard journey. In lieu of flowers, the family request all donations be made to the Lakeshore General Hospital Guild, Palliative Care Unit, c/o Julie Bergner, PO Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0.
