JAMES ROBERT DOWNEY 1937 - 2015 Peacefully at home and surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, Jim passed away after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Pat; daughters Kim (Dennis) Vick, Tanis (nee May) Rutherford; son Chris Downey; grandchildren Nathan (Christy) Vick, Chance Vick, Monica (Stephen) (nee May) Bankston, Melanie (Peter) (nee May) Puetz, Laura Rutherford and Hannah Downey; six great-grandchildren; surviving siblings Lenora Sykes, Vivian (Gordon) Barwick, Shirley (Ron) Turner, Morris (Mary Jane), Larry (Pat), Ernie, Barbara (Terry) Davies and Gary; sisters-in-law Audrey and Donna. Jim was predeceased by his parents Lawrence Richard and Ella Lenora Downey and brothers Marvin, Leslie and Lyle. He was always up for a challenge from playing in bands with his family and friends, to buying a float plane before he got his pilots license. His professional career demonstrated this also, building roads for Manitoba Highways, developing land in St. Andrews, St. Clements and Fort Francis, owning a float plane base on the Red River and designing and building Mars Sandhills Golf Course with partners Tony and Vivian Dureski. Jim had a wonderful sense of humor, which leaves his family and friends with many happy memories. He will be sadly missed and remain in our hearts forever. In keeping with his wishes cremation will take place and a memorial gathering and celebration of his life will be held in the fall.
