MARY WOJNA It is through a veil of tears, and with broken hearts, that we announce the passing of Mary Wojna, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. Mary was born in Duval, Saskatchewan on December 2, 1922, and grew up in her much-loved Jansen, Saskatchewan. Until recently, she spent most of her adult life living in Winnipeg, and most of each summer at her lake home at White Lake. After her husband Mitchell passed away in 2009, Mom moved in with her eldest daughter Heather. In 2012 the family moved to their home on the Lee River where Mom loved to watch the birds feed, eagerly awaited the first hummingbird of the season, and enjoyed her garden. Her favourite colour was green because, as she said, it was the "colour of life" and she loved her trees and all things nature. Mom loved to read, tell stories, and write poetry. She loved to sing and dance and could still tickle the ivories when she had her annual visit with her daughter Lisa in Leduc. She enjoyed fishing, and was an adventurous traveler who, at 90, donned a miner's hat and climbed the 550 feet through a mining tunnel to the top of Drumheller's Atlas Coal Mine - because she didn't want to miss out on anything. And just weeks before her death she visited White Lake one last time, and enjoyed a family outing to the Winnipeg Zoo with her daughters, Heather and Michelle. Most of all, Mom loved her family and never missed a family event, even showing up at last Christmas dinner following a hospital visit to treat her bronchitis. On June 15, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer and surrounded by her family, Mom left us for her eternal home. A lakeside memorial service is being held at her home at 13 Meadows Drive, Lac du Bonnet, at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 4, presided by her son-in-law, Rev. Brad Elliott. The family would like to invite friends and family to our mother's home for a come and go celebration of her life from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice. • Michelle and family - I am so sorry to hear of your moms passing. I will always remember her in the garden while we climbed trees in the field, her playful nicknames calling us mutt and Jeff, and her beautiful piano playing. She was a lady of true kindness - what a wonderful lady. Thoughts and prayers for you all. - Posted by: Darcey urbanowich-lemay () on: Jun 28, 2015

  • To my dearest friend Heather and her family, Not many like your mom ( Mary ) leave an impact like she did. She was a real trooper and your love for her was truly felt and known by all. I hope you all find comfort that she will always be with you in spirit and by just knowing this means she will always watch over you and care for you; that part will never end. Your mom ( Mary ) was a ray of sunshine to many and now she gets to shine from above. - Posted by: Deb Harpley (friend) on: Jun 27, 2015

  • Condolences on behalf of myself and my mother Irma, both now living on Vancouver Island. My father Jack was Mitch's fishing buddy for many years in the Whiteshell. We remember Mary fondly and have many memories of our family outings together. - Posted by: JAMES DERRY (FRIEND) on: Jun 27, 2015

  • Mrs Wojna was a lovely person who valued her family and cared for them incredibly. To love Mary was to love Mitch as they were an un-seperable couple !! Both she and Mr. Wojna were cherished friends to my parents - Jean and Victor Doroschuk - they shared many good times and are fondly remembered. Will always say a prayer as we pass by the cottage! We are sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Gaylene Romero (Doroschuk) (Friend) on: Jun 22, 2015
