DONALD H. ROBBINS, P. ENG. After a not quite long enough life, we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Don is survived by his wife Heather, his children Jason (Kris), Brenda (Mette), Lisa (Dave), his sisters Carol and Elaine, and his grandchildren Aela and Cassidy. Don will be remembered as an animal lover, sailor, business owner, and talented structural engineer. Don was an intelligent and inventive man who was just as comfortable building a house, calculating structural forces, rebuilding an engine, or tapping Manitoba Maple trees for a few ounces of syrup. He enjoyed canoe trips, camping, his motor boat, canoe, and sail boat, skating on the La Salle River, windsurfing, and photography with his Olympus cameras. Dad was a caring and gentle man who played toys with kids, rescued cats, and loved his dogs. He was always supportive of his children and readily adapted to a new life in Birtle. His favourite place in recent days was his cottage at Otter Lake. There you could find him working on projects, solving puzzles, soaking in the hot tub, or having a Cuba libre on the deck. Heather and Don would like to give a very special thank you to the staff at CancerCare HSC and the Palliative Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to support Don's daughter Brenda's row across the Atlantic in his honour (rowforblood.ca), or a scholarship being established in his name at the University of Saskatchewan College of Engineering (https://give.usask.ca/online/). Recall the days of Sharing the " shack tent" we jointly owned at Waskesui. Also towing Don's discarded cars (less the motor) out to Saskatoon landfill. PLUS keeping in touch over past 47 years. Lifelong friend I will miss and think of the memories. - Posted by: gary nieminen (Long time friend and engineering college colleague.) on: Jun 17, 2015
