JANICE SHOTT It is with saddened hearts our family announces the passing of our mother, Janice Shott (nee Spence) on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Left to cherish mom's memory are her children; Gerald (Sandra), David, Sandra (Bob) Iwankow, Timothy (Shirley), her grandchildren Amanda (Tyler) Neapew, Kaley Young (Kelson), Rodney (Jennifer) Iwankow, Richelle Iwankow, and her great-grandchild, Emily Young. Mom was predeceased by her husband, William Nick on June 19, 2006, her mother Tonita in 1975, father Hilton in 1982, and her sister Marlene in 2010. Mom was born in Winnipeg on October 11, 1936 to Tonita and Hilton Spence and she was the youngest of two children. Mom grew up in the North End of Winnipeg, (on Inkster Blvd.) attending Luxton School, St. John's High School and graduated from United College. She spent many years working at Winnipeg/Manitoba Housing before retirement. Mom met the love of her life William (Nick) Shott and they married in March of 1957, and started raising their family. They spent many years on Lipton Street in Winnipeg before designing and building their home in Lockport, MB. Upon their retirement, they moved to Fred Douglas Place in Winnipeg. As a business woman mom was always involved in something; including Lily White Laundromat, a Bed and Breakfast out of their home in Lockport, arranging trips with Manitoba Society of Seniors, Toastmasters, and Friendship Force. She also spent time as a Marriage Commissioner. She made numerous friendships over the years from all of her involvements. Having the Bed and Breakfast allowed mom to meet many people from all over the world, emphasizing her love for travel. Her travelling started with family camping at farm in Medika, to Rushing River Provincial Park, then moving on to camping across Canada. Family trips to Orlando, Hawaii and Mexico will be something we will all remember for many years. Once the children had grown, her travels changed to many destinations throughout the world. In February of 2012, mom was diagnosed with dementia, and could no longer live on her own. Mom then moved to Luther Home, where she resided until her passing. Our family would like to thank all residents and staff at Luther Home, for your care, friendship and compassion over the last few years. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in mom's memory may be made to either Luther Home (Residence Council) or to the Alzheimer Society. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My Thoughts and prayers are with you during this challenging time. Janice was a great lady. Her love for her family was obvious I seen it in her smile when they visited. When we first meet Janice would share her travel stories with me she was a good friend and I will miss you all - Posted by: Elaine Joseph (friend) on: Jun 29, 2015

  • My deepeest sympathies to Janice's family upon her passing. I met Janice in 1993 when we were both taking a course from the U of M, a pilot program, Management Development for Women. We ended up being in the same sub group of gals, which is how I got to know your mom better. She was a feisty, warm and fun person and we needed this kind of person in our group, as the course was a huge challenge! She had a big heart and was not afraid to speak her mind! She will surely be missed! - Posted by: Barb Gyselinck (Former classmate at U of M) on: Jun 28, 2015

  • I love this picture. It's exactly how I remember you Janice. Rest in peace now. Love from a fellow Toastmaster, Oddny. - Posted by: ODDNY JOHNSON (Toastmasters) on: Jun 21, 2015

  • Dear family of Janice, Wayne and I extend our sincere sympathies in regards to your Mom's passing. When we visited Luther Home, often, we would say hello to your Mom; and, she was always so considerate and would say 'thank you' to us - what a life she led! We are thinking of you at this time.
