GLEN TREVOR THEODORE RIDINGS December 11, 1924 - June 13, 2015 It is with gratitude for a long life well lived that we announce the passing of Glen Ridings on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. His daughter and grandchildren, and close family friend Linda Bitton, were at his side. Glen was born in The Pas, MB to parents, Phillip and Kerstin (nee Westman) Ridings on December 11, 1924. Glen's Swedish and English grandparents figured prominently in his early years and he spoke of them with great love and fondness all his life. The happiest days of his youth were spent with childhood friends, Bob Musgrove, Billy Espey, Vince Hasker, Leonard Austin and others (the "River Rats") swimming in and exploring the banks of the Pasquia and Saskatchewan rivers. Summers at Clearwater Lake as a child created his lifelong love for the lake, and after buying a cottage in 1969 he was able to spend many very enjoyable years there until 2011, first with his wife Beth and daughter Lisa, and later with his friend Margaret. He also thoroughly enjoyed over 20 winters in Fort Myers, Florida as well as a trip to Hawaii in 1981. After health issues arose, Glen moved to The Waverley in Winnipeg to be near his daughter and grandchildren. Glen enjoyed a career of 31 years as a Meteorological Technician. Most of these years were spent stationed at The Pas Airport, with the exception of two years in Frobisher Bay, NWT (now Iqaluit, Nunavut) and three years as Officer in Charge of the Weather Station in Baker Lake, NWT from 1965 to 1968. Glen was predeceased by his parents, stepmother Margaret Ridings (2008), wife Beth (1995), sister Rhoda in infancy and his grandson Gregory (1993). Left to cherish happy and comforting memories are his daughter Lisa Jordan and grandchildren Pamela, Amanda and Scott, sisters Lesley (Randy) Price and Rosalind (Ian) Malcolm, nieces Sydney Wiess and Allyson Lomberk, nephew David Malcolm and their families, his partner of the last 17 years, Margaret Phin and many friends. Special thanks to Dr. Brian Sharkey for many years of compassionate care as Glen's family doctor, and to the staff at The Waverley and Homecare for their care and kindness. Thanks also to the wonderful staff on ward 7A South at The St. Boniface Hospital, especially nurse Kevin. At Glen's request there will not be a formal service. A private gathering will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu, donations in Glen's memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Dad, it's been more fun than a picnic. You will be deeply missed. .fly me to the moon, let me play among the stars NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
