JAMES EDWARD KERSLAKE Peacefully, on Friday, June 19, 2015, at the age of 76 years, James Edward Kerslake passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital with his family by his side. Jim was born in 1938, the son of Alice and Walter Kerslake. He was predeceased by his son Gary. He is survived by his wife Shirley; sister Irene Zuk; sons Brian (Virginia) and Alan (Michael); and two grandchildren, Sebastian and Owen. Jim was a long time resident of Winnipeg, growing up in Fort Rouge and attending Lord Roberts Elementary and Churchill High schools. He and Shirley were married on a hot August day in 1960 and the family lived in Winnipeg, The Pas and Thunder Bay before relocating back to St. Vital in 1982. Jim was employed by CN Rail and Via Rail during his work career, retiring in 1994. He spent many cold winter days as a hockey coach at the Lord Roberts Community Center when his sons were young. He was a board member and volunteer for the St. James Figure Skating Club during Alan's time as a competitive skater. Jim was an avid curler, and an honourary life member of the Heather Curling Club. With his group of "Tuesday Golfers" he had great fun on the links every summer. He and Shirley spent many summers at the Graham family cottage at Lee River working alongside his father in-law building the cottage and enjoying time with his family. He was a home handyman always fixing or making improvements. He enjoyed being given a project to complete from either Shirley or his sons to keep him busy. Jim will be remembered for his dedication to family and friends, always willing to help on any occasion. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23 at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave. (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3E0V9, or to the charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Shirley and family, I have many fond memories of our time together at The Vic. When you work together for long periods, we get to feel as if we know one another's family very well. That is how it is was for me listening to the stories of your life together. I also had the occasion to see Jim on many social occasions. The hole he will leave in your lives is immeasurable and my heart aches for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Lynn Ohlson (McGregor) (former work colleague of Shirley's) on: Jun 23, 2015

Jim was a good friend of my younger brother David when we all grew up in the Nassau st, Arnold, Heatherington street area . They were great days for kids and we had a lot of them around playing like kids did then, just having fun. No Tv or technology to ruin our childhood years. Lord Roberts School and Community Club were great locations as well as the Fort Rouge Curling Club on Kylemore. Rest well Jim - Posted by: gordon mclauchlin (grew up in same area and friend to my brother david) on: Jun 23, 2015
