AGANETHA (NETTIE) FUNK It is with a heavy heart that we say good-bye to our loving mother, grandmother and Amma who passed away June 19, 2015, at the age of 87, at Middlechurch Personal Care Home. Nettie will be sadly missed by her daughter Debbie and son-in-law Robert De Jaeger, her two granddaughters Melanie (Dennis), and Laura (Tyler). She will be greatly missed by her five great-grandchildren, Cailin, Cassidy, Hayley, Ella and Xavier who were the joys of her life. Nettie was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Bernie in 2003 and by her companion John Harkins in 2013 who shared her love of dancing and gave her joy in life again. She was the last one in her family (Hiebert) being predeceased by her nine sisters and two brothers. Nettie spent most of the early years working. She was a woman of many talents. She worked at Rae and Jerry's and in sales at Sweet Sixteen Dress Shop and Eaton's. Nettie worked for Sanford Evans Printing and Publishing for over 17 years until an injury required her to leave. This injury did not keep her down as a few years later Nettie and Bernie opened numerous businesses including Dairy Town Ice Cream parlor in 1977. In 1986 they retired in Gimli where they enjoyed a quieter pace of life, travelling to Mesa, Arizona in the winter and Gimli in the summers. Nettie would always call Gimli her home even though she had moved to assisted living in 2004 and then to Middlechurch Personal Care Home in 2012. We would like to thank every single person on B2 at Middlechurch for their wonderful care and comfort of Mom and also care and support of the family. Your smiles and hugs were great. A special thanks to the friends of Nettie's at the home. Cremation has already taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2015 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to Manitoba Arthritis Society, 386 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6; Middlechurch Personal Care Home, 280 Balderstone Rd., West St. Paul, MB R4A 5A2; CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or a charity of your choice.
